    Kristen’s Bio:

    I have the privilege and honor of running a small group psychotherapy practice based in Portland, Oregon. Our practice - Kristen Genzano Therapy - is dedicated to holding a compassionate and nonjudgmental place for women to talk through the unique challenges they face in their lives.

    Before I was a therapist, I worked in the corporate world where I witnessed (and experienced) many of the complicated challenges women face as professionals, as business owners, as mothers, as daughters, as partners, and as friends to one another. It was this experience that prompted me to return to graduate school to become a Therapist.

    I attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where I completed advanced training in Mindfulness & Behavior Therapies and specialized in working with survivors of childhood sexual trauma. In addition to my work as a psychotherapist I'm a Mindful Self-Compassion teacher.

    Self-Compassion and It's Role in Sustaining Your Career in Veterinary Medicine

    Self-Compassion and It's Role in Sustaining Your Career in Veterinary Medicine

    Let's be real. Being a veterinarian is hard sometimes. Tune in today to hear why I think that Mindful Self-Compassion work could be key to sustaining yourself in veterinary medicine. I have found such huge benefits from my self-compassion practice that I am excited to share the research and ideas with you.
    Much gratitude for the research and work of Drs. Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer in the field of mindful self-compassion and for the co-creation of the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion. Much of my discussion today is based on their work. Check out their websites and click here to find out more about the courses that they offer!
    Here is a link to some of my favorite resources for learning even more about self-compassion.

    Interview with Special Guest Linda Graham

    Interview with Special Guest Linda Graham

    In this podcast, Anat interviews Linda Graham, MFT, a mindfulness teacher and world-renowned resilience expert. Linda teaches that resilience is a foundational practice for coping with the inevitable ups and downs in life. She teaches tools to develop a resilience mindset that can be used to cope with disappointments, difficulties, and even disasters.

    Parenting can be demanding and having a child with special needs makes it even more so. In this interview, we focus on why and how Linda’s approach works in providing new ways for parents and others to respond to pressures and tragedies.

    In this episode, Anat Baniel and Linda Graham discuss:

    • the direct outcome of learning how to cultivate positive emotions is resilience;
    • a tool that Linda teaches is “Awareness and Acceptance” – becoming aware of what you are feeling and having compassion for yourself at the same time;
    • another tool is “Change Every ‘Should’ to a ‘Could’” – 'should' sets you up for failure; 'could' opens you up to the possibilities and the larger perspective;
    • how you perceive yourself, how you talk to yourself, and how you judge or support yourself is key to how resilient your brain is going to be in coping with the situation;
    • people learn to be resilient by coping with adversity, and by finding meaning in the tragedy;
    • pre-submitted questions from the audience.

    Mindful Tips To Support Mental Health in Adults and Kids

    Mindful Tips To Support Mental Health in Adults and Kids
    In this Episode Julie Potiker, Mindfulness Expert and author of Life Falls Apart, but You Don’t Have To: Mindful Methods for Staying Calm in the Midst of Chaos, shares her own experience with depression and credits the power of therapy and her commitment to mindfulness techniques to changing her life. Recognizing that it’s easy to let the stresses of daily life overwhelm and send us into unhelpful thought patterns, Julie’s goal is to empower adults, teens and kids with tools and tips that will improve their mental health. She offers parents strategies to share with the first grader with school anxiety, the teen with FOMO ( Fear of Missing out) or the friend facing workplace bullying. She even addresses ways to cope when teens ignore what you say or partners dismiss use of mindful techniques. For Julie Potiker, practices like Self-Compassion and Loving Kindness are translatable to every age and much as anxiety can spark in a moment, calming and soothing can take its place.
