    Mahatma Gandhi's Last Birthday Wish

    Mahatma Gandhi's Last Birthday Wish

In this episode of Voice of Bengaluru, host Sowjanya talks about Mahatma Gandhi and the connection he shared with MS Subbulakshmi.

Gandhi and Subbulakshmi had deep mutual respect for each other. Subbulakshmi was known to be a great admirer of Gandhi, and she often performed at his meetings and rallies. In fact, it was Subbulakshmi's rendition of Gandhi's favourite bhajan, "Vaishnav Jan To," that earned her widespread recognition and popularity across India. In 1947, on the eve of India's independence, Subbulakshmi performed at the United Nations General Assembly, where she sang the song "Maitreem Bhajata," which was composed by the famous Indian philosopher and scholar, Adi Shankaracharya. The song calls for world peace and harmony, reflecting the values that both Gandhi and Subbulakshmi held dear.

Overall, Mahatma Gandhi and MS Subbulakshmi were two remarkable figures who left an indelible mark on Indian history. Their legacy continues to inspire people around the world, and they remain an important part of India's cultural and political heritage.
