My guest this week is one familiar to me and one I’m excited to introduce to you. His name is Dotun Ayeni. He’s an animal scientist by profession, a sound engineer by passion and works as a business development manager in an Australian lift Manufacturing company in Nigeria, his motherland. Dotun’s also my sound engineer.

I’ve brought Dotun to my show this week because he’s an expert on the spoken word and he’s also part of a larger trend of holding two jobs (or several jobs) vs. one. Like many of my listeners, Dotun’s reinvented himself when and as needed. His sound engineering work came to him when well-paid work as an animal scientist did not.

Dr Udeme Jacob gives us an insight into the ups, downs, challenges, and yes rewards that are peculiar to doing research in Africa. Amid challenges such as lack of appreciation of the work done by us and for us, lack of funding, infrastructure, and governance issues. Even with these, the competence of researchers in Nigeria cannot be underestimated or undermined.

Part 1:  Dr Mrs Owoola Ambali obtained her PhD in Pharmacognosy from the prestigious University of Ibadan, Nigeria. In this log she shares the impact of inadequate infrastructure while doing research in Africa.  Systemic barriers and disadvantages as well as being a woman, a wife, and a mum navigating the landscapes of doing academic research in Nigeria. But against all odds, Dr Mrs Ambali, stands strong with integrity and hard work. She keeps impacting the lives of her students in the Department of Medicine where she currently lectures.

Part1: The music and life episode

Shoutout to all the young Nigerian creatives doing their thing. Part2: The story of Mbappe 

Damini attempts to break down the enormity of the Mbappe transfer saga from the POV of a Madrid fan eating sour grapes. Is it a tale of entitlement and being too desperate? In the words of Drake, "You said I led you on, but you followed me." We detail the feelings and magnitude of the apparent betrayal. (01:19:50) We tell the story of the Florentino Perez, the ultimate closer; the man that stole Figo from the Camp Nou, being sold a Trojan horse. The devil himself was played by Mbappe of Bondy. A tale for the ages, the biggest transfer saga in football history since arguably Figo, maybe Di Stefano, and so the story continues for the forbidden affair.
