As a songwriter, he’s co-written some of the biggest songs of all time including Wilson Pickett’s “In the Midnight Hour,” Eddie Floyd’s “Knock on Wood,” and Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay.” 

Over his celebrated career, Steve has worked with Sam & Dave, Stevie Wonder, Carla Thomas, Neil Young, Rod Stewart, José Feliciano, Jeff Beck, Johnny Cash, Ringo Starr, George Harrison, John Lennon, Tom Petty, and countless others. In 1992, Steve (as part of Booker T. & the M.G.’s) was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2005, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The late great Otis Redding makes his first and only appearance on the podcast to teach us all about the merits of removing polyps from your vocal chords and sitting your ass down on the dock of the bay to listen. Andrew and Dan do their best to be respectful of this music legend who was taken from us too soon and they fail miserably at within the first 20 minutes. Enjoy!

Felix Cavaliere is a singer and piano player most known for his time in The Young Rascals/The Rascals, with whom he has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.   He also played with Joey Dee and the Starliters, future Kiss guitarist Vinnie Vincent (in Treasure) and was part of Ringo Starr's All Star Band along with Mark Farner, Randy Bachman and others.  In this episode we'll discuss playing on the Ed Sullivan Show,  segregation of the 1960s, the stories behind some of the Rascals biggest hit songs, the influence of the Beatles and more!
