    Ranked among Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time and named The World’s Greatest Living Guitar Player by Mojo magazine, Steve is a founding member of Booker T. & the M.G.’s, the Mar-Keys, and the Blues Brothers. As a songwriter, he’s co-written some of the biggest songs of all time including Wilson Pickett’s “In the Midnight Hour,” Eddie Floyd’s “Knock on Wood,” and Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay.” 

    Over his celebrated career, Steve has worked with Sam & Dave, Stevie Wonder, Carla Thomas, Neil Young, Rod Stewart, José Feliciano, Jeff Beck, Johnny Cash, Ringo Starr, George Harrison, John Lennon, Tom Petty, and countless others. In 1992, Steve (as part of Booker T. & the M.G.’s) was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2005, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

    OTIS REDDING & CARLA THOMAS: EL ALMA A FLOR DE PIEL

    A principios de 1967 OTIS REDDING Y CARLA THOMAS grabaron un álbum en los estudios de la STAX RECORDS en Memphis, acompañados por los mejores músicos de sesión de la ciudad. El álbum titulado "KING & QUEEN" obtuvo un éxito comercial y artístico que encumbró aún más a estas dos grandes figuras de la música Soul. Desgraciadamente, Otis Redding no pudo consolidar esa fama creciente debido a su fallecimiento en un accidente aéreo en diciembre de ese mismo año. Carla Thomas, por su parte, vive hoy semirretirada de los escenarios a los que solamente regresa en ocasiones muy puntuales. En la Alfombra Mágica de hoy, recuperamos algunas de aquellas canciones que componían el disco de esta singular pareja que ya han entrado por derecho propio en el Olimpo del Soul Sureño.

    SOUL GRASIENTO EN LA TIERRA DE LOS VAQUEROS COWBOYS

    Espoleado por el éxito reciente de Otis Redding y Carla Thomas con su disco de duetos, el empresario y productor discográfico de música country Shelby Singleton se llevó a Nashville en 1968 a esta pareja de Alabama para grabar un álbum de canciones soul y blues acompañados de músicos de sesión que hasta la fecha solo tocaban música para vaqueros paletos. El resultado del disco fue tan satisfactorio que tuvo su continuidad al año siguiente con un segundo trabajo que destilaba toneladas de R&B sudoroso no apto para espíritus pusilánimes. Jo Jo Benson falleció en 2014 y Peggy Scott-Adams, tras casi 30 años alejada de la profesión, retomó su carrera artística a mediados de los 90's grabando discos con cierta regularidad, muchos de ellos de música gospel. En la segunda parte de la Alfombra Mágica de hoy, recordamos a esta pareja en su mejor época: los años 68 y 69.
