    About the Book

NASA's space shuttle was the world's first reusable spacecraft, accomplishing many firsts and inspiring generations across its 30-year lifespan as America's iconic spaceship. In Space Shuttle Stories, shuttle astronaut Tom Jones interviewed more than 130 fellow astronauts for personal vignettes from each mission, complemented by their written accounts for all 135 space shuttle missions, from Columbia's maiden flight in 1981 to the final launch of Atlantis in 2011. The book is a major contribution to the historical record of a momentous era of spaceflight.

    Each mission profile includes:

An astronaut narrative that immerses the readers in their personal mission experience

Data about the mission, crew, launch, landing, duration, and highlights

Captivating photographs rarely seen by the public

The Space Shuttle program’s 6 orbiter vehicles (Enterprise, Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavour) carried a total of 355 astronauts into orbit on 135 missions aimed at cutting-edge scientific research, satellite launch, retrieval and repair, collaborative work with the Russian Mir station, the launching and servicing of the Hubble Space Telescope, and the construction of the International Space Station. Space Shuttle Stories focuses on the lived, human experiences of larger-than-life space missions. It's a definitive oral history that captures the importance, wonder, and exhilaration of the Space Shuttle era.

Mars Attacks! (1996): "Starring Ray J"

Mars Attacks! (1996): "Starring Ray J"

Here’s the thing about Mars Attacks! (1996) — it’s not giving Tim Burton. We’re dedicating our third installment of Alien Month to the notoriously spooky director, but this flick is a little different from his most famous material. Though it includes a few CLEAR references to his earlier work, it’s missing his trademark emaciated waif aesthetic, is devoid of any claymation whatsoever, and doesn’t star his main bestie. It does, however, feature pretty much everyone else in Hollywood. The interstellar cast ranges from Oscar winners and nominees to Brandy’s little brother, plus Jack Nicholson times two just for fun. On a new Spooky Tuesday, we’re swapping out our Transatlantic accents for Martian and music as we bravely resist the urge to yodel all episode long.

I always enjoy catching up with friends on the circuit and Phil and I see each other at least once every two years and its always a laugh. Phil started out in entertainment at an early age, he joined a band originally fronted by Brian Conley in the 1980’s and Phil stayed with that band for 6 years before going solo and enjoying summer seasons, pantomimes and the cruise industry and countless Cabaret, Corporate & after dinner bookings. He is now taking bookings for his new venture as a Tom Jones Tribute mixed with his own style of humour and its that very persona that I admire about Phil. S6 Ep2 - Henley Festival 40th anniversary

    S6 Ep2 - Henley Festival 40th anniversary

Henley Festival CEO Jo Bausor gives us the lowdown on the 40th anniversary of Henley's iconic music and arts event, being held this week from Wed 6th to Sunday 10 July.

After two years of disruption due to the Covid pandemic, everyone is looking forward to getting 'back to normal'. Many festival goers will be focusing on the key attractions on the floating stage, including Sir Tom Jones, The Script, Craig David, Katherine Jenkins, Pete Tong, Katherine Jenkins and Jack Savoretti. Yet there is a wide choice of entertainment to enjoy across the site - not just music but also comedy, street theatre, art and gastronomic experiences.

Jo admits that organising the festival has not been plain sailing due to ongoing supply and staffing issues, but all is now in place for a fabulous few days on the banks of the River Thames.

She is also excited about the festival's new 'Rise' initiative. Described as 'supporting emerging talent in front and behind the spotlight', the scheme involves offering young people work experience in the arts, whether performing or exhibiting or behind the scenes. Launched for the 40th anniversary, Jo envisages Rise will be an integral part of Henley Festival every year, hopefully in future offering financial support for equipment and bursaries for further education.

The festival certainly remains true to its original purpose of supporting young emerging talent, as well as local charities.
