    "I allow: Two very powerful words in reclaiming your own power again from within. These two words can change your entire mentality of where responsibility exists, and it is not “out there”, it is within. I used these words to shift ALL back to me, so I would stop focusing on another who I had given my power away to, by focusing on them and what “they” were doing. I realized that it did not matter what they did, for they did exactly what I allowed them to. So, I used to say over and over “It’s not what they do, it’s what I allow”.

     

    By embracing the words "I allow," we pave the way for profound internal growth. We learn to love ourselves, to honor our journey, and to act with integrity.     This week we explore why we do and don’t do things. Do we move toward accomplishment, or away from punishment, disappointment or discomfort?

    How can we approach our ambitions in a way that honors these two warring desires within us?

    We explore the ways our beliefs about the world can get in the way of moving toward our dreams, and create more space for us to receive good things in the world.

    When we notice the moment that we put on the brakes and limit how much we are willing to commit to an outcome, or how hard we want to push for that outcome, it illuminates where our most limiting beliefs are and gives us the opportunity to deconstruct them.

    Humans tend to approach the same point of failure repeatedly, become confused as to why things aren’t working, and find themselves too tired to figure it out. It leads to us returning to the same projects and big ambitions using the same actions and finding ourselves stuck at the same place on repeat, which leads to despair and frustration.

    Surrounding ourselves with people who have achieved or are achieving the same goals as us is so helpful in overcoming our confusion, fears, and setbacks.

    We can also tap into the innate wisdom of our body to learn why we stop ourselves from moving forward, and discover the best times for us to push ahead.

    Moving Through Resistance

    Today, Nate explores moving through resistance. Most of us have a higher version of ourselves, but we are often impatient with ourselves and set unrealistic goals. “What if we could let go of focusing on the result of our change, and instead being on a path of change itself, be its own reward?” He references a book from Dr. Joe Dispenza, which advises having a higher vision of yourself that is so clear and associated with positive emotions, that there is no mental space for resistance. 


    Resistance starts with feelings, and then the thoughts that we attach to those feelings. When we have thoughts of resistance, we are not beholden to them. Sometimes, he explains, we can make an energetic choice. In making these choices, and being disciplined with them, we build new neural pathways. Being present, as self-help author Cheri Huber explains, can be achieved through simple practices. This is reiterated in the work of Julia Cameron, whose work outlines exercises that help you move into a creative flow state.


    Nate shares two personal experiences in which he encountered, and eventually overcame, mental resistance. Most life challenges, he believes, can be boiled down to three choices. One: leave a situation, two: modify the situation, and three: accept the situation. Peace comes from knowing that you have the ability to make the choice. In closing, he explores the idea that death is not to be feared, which is the final lesson of letting go.

    Resistance and Our Whiny Inner Child

    Resistance and Our Whiny Inner Child

    It’s true. I have a whiny inner child that hates being interrupted. It also sabotages me from doing things I want to do and keeps me from completing projects. If you also have fallen victim to your inner resistance, this episode is all about how we explore and overcome the fears that spark our resistance so we can make happier, more informed choices. Kick that resistance to the curb! After you give it a hug.

    Some Highlights 

    2:01       Our need to be a part of society makes us shut down some of our emotions and emotional reactions

    3:29       You can be content in your life while still allowing for feeling irked now and then

    3:55       Interruptions to our thought process and activities piss us off and that’s normal and probably a good thing

    4:30       Being interrupted feels like a punch through my solar plexus from the inside that gets stopped at my skin level

    5:10       Resistance is informing and showing you where you are focused and where you don’t want to be focused

    6:20       The resistance to doing something you think you want to do feels different than the resistance of an outer distraction blocking you from action

    8:40       We think we’ll be happy if we do something perfectly, so we hold off on starting until we believe we can or will do it perfectly

    9:13       We get stuck in an idea of perfection, but we can’t even define what perfection is because we have too many definitions of it

    10:43    So much of our experience of life is open for questioning that could allow us to have more choices about what we want to do next and what we allow ourselves to pursue next

    11:15    The fear of what we’ll find underneath our feelings of resistance is what keeps us avoiding things even more

    12:50    Our resistance of whatever we are avoiding doesn’t negate the times we actually did do the work and followed through, even if we fear it does

    13:17    Pausing a project for a time doesn’t mean that you will never come back to it – Never is just a thought you have about the situation, and that can change

    13:40    To reengage with your project or passion, you need to connect with the reason you wanted to start in the first place, the first time around

    14:00    It’s OK to have grown in between the periods of resistance and to set a project aside in order to start something new, or even the same thing, again, from scratch

    14:40    I was inspired by writer Charles de Lint’s crow girls and am currently overcoming resistance to finishing my painting of them

    15:21    There are so many ways we trap ourselves into stopping following our inspiration

    16:10    Releasing the perfection trap and our inner resistance can be as simple as noticing it’s there in the first place and forgiving ourselves for forgetting that we can always make a new choice

I have been listening and that’s what this show is about. In empathy one person is quite simply in the presence of another human being. Empathy is supposedly like apple pie and motherhood. What’s not to like? Yet being empathic can be confronting and anxiety inspiring because one has to dispense with evaluations, filters, diagnostic labels, and egocentrism. Make empathy less of a rumor and an expanded reality in your world!
