Should Society Be Progressive? | Mere Christianity Ep. 7

Should Society Be Progressive? | Mere Christianity Ep. 7

Most of western society has progressed beyond religion entirely.  Religious worldviews are a thing of the past, they didn't really work out for us right? We certainly shouldn't turn the clock back to such barbaric times!

Lewis will address this assertion and reveal what the true meaning of "progress" is.  And how can we know if we're progressing? We'll discuss this as well and finally, we wrap up with some quotes from Church History that will hopefully be an encouragement to you!

Tirsdag 23.05 - Er Queen Cleopatra verdens dårligste serie?

Tirsdag 23.05 - Er Queen Cleopatra verdens dårligste serie?

    The Last of Us, Plausible?

    The Last of Us, Plausible?
The Last of us on HBO is undoubtedly a huge hit, although the show is primarily about love and how we share in it. The premise of the show is an apocalyptic event brought on by a fungal infection which turns grandmothers into crazed killers. We're all still living with the challenges Covid brought us so... how likely is it that an event like this could occur and what's out there for us to be concerned about? The Answer? There's some stuff...

Let's Watch The Last of Us (Ft. Lindsay Nunan!)

The incredibly hyped Last of Us TV show has come and gone. And you know what? It was pretty darn good! Today we are joined by Lindsay, who didn't play the game, to get her fresh thoughts! Cameron and Jake also have plenty of high quality opinions.

57 - Brad Green on Knowing God in our Affections and Critical Theory’s Cultural Revolution

In this episode, I talk with Dr. Bradley Green. Dr. Bradley Green is Professor of Theological Studies at Union University. He is author of several books and Senior Fellow at Newton House. We discuss the relationship of knowledge and affections with Brad explaining how Augustine speaks of this. We explore what it looks like to have affections for God. We close discussing a recent article with American Reformer regarding Critical Theory. Why are affections important? How do they relate to knowing? What is Critical Theory? Why does it matter today? Are we living in a revolution?

    Restlessness

Feeling a little distracted lately? Most of us are, and not just lately. We tend to view withering attention spans and the compulsion to seek change for its own sake as curses of the social media era, but restless dissatisfaction has been the subject of philosophical inquiry for centuries.

Dhimant Parekh : Founder, The Better India & The Better Home

Dhimant Parekh : Founder, The Better India & The Better Home
I speak with entrepreneur and “good guy of the Indian startup scene”, Dhimant Parekh. He’s the founder and CEO of The Better India and The Better Home - the former is a media company that shines a spotlight on people making a difference, and the latter is a line of sustainable home-cleaning products. His LinkedIn bio starts with “I love to build useful stuff from scratch.”

When I floated the idea for this show on Twitter last year, more than one person wrote in saying I should definitely have him on the show. And that was a good idea - Dhimant was called, by one of those people, as the “most productive person I know”. Apart from running these two seemingly different companies, he also has a lot of outside interests - theatre, reading, the startup scene in general, quantum physics… all in all, great guest material for my humble little show.

What I spoke to Dhimant about:

How one's upbringing can really shape what they do in the future

On how parallel interests can rub off on each other

Finding your own work style (Dhimant, admittedly, is not a calendar-oriented person)

Why the most important skill today is the ability to narrate a story

How his company dealt with the pandemic and overcame several odds

Positivity and finding hope in a time like this

His various interests: from PASCAL to quantum physics.

    Everything Dhimant Parekh:

References made during the show, not in order:

Dhimant’s thread about how he imbibed empathy from his dad

The Pomodoro Technique, which Dhimant references, but doesn’t necessarily espouse

Dhimant’s love for quantum physics can be seen in some of his Twitter threads - here is one, on one of the most famous equations of all time
