Welcome to the Horror Project Podcast. Join hosts Laura and Phil as they review Thanksgiving (2023).

We discuss the American holiday Thanksgiving, and our total lack of knowledge surrounding it. Black Friday madness and those scenes of people going crazy for those big retail discounts. Greed, it turns out is pretty bad!!!

We also delve into 'John Carver' as the hottest new killer on the horror scene. A nimble menace whose not afraid to upload his antics to instagram or a live stream.

Plus we shall be finding a place on the leaderboard for the movie during our Ranking.

    Midweek Mention... Enchanted

    Midweek Mention... Enchanted

Welcome back to another magical episode of Bad Dads Film Review! Today, we're diving into the charming, whimsical, and downright delightful world of Enchanted.

Enchanted, released in 2007 and directed by Kevin Lima, cleverly combines the fantastical elements of animated fairy tales with the gritty reality of live-action. This Disney film begins in the animated world of Andalasia, where the typical fairy tale tropes are turned on their head when our heroine, Giselle, is thrust into the real world of New York City.

Amy Adams stars as Giselle, a classic Disney princess with a twist. Her world is turned upside down when she's banished from Andalasia by an evil queen and finds herself in the bustling, not-so-magical streets of New York. There, she encounters Robert Philip (Patrick Dempsey), a divorce lawyer and single dad, who's as cynical as she is naively optimistic.

Enchanted stands out for its seamless blend of animation and live-action, bringing together the best of both worlds. The film is a playful nod to Disney classics while also offering a fresh, modern take on the genre.

This film is a delightful watch for the whole family. It's got romance, comedy, catchy songs, and just the right amount of nostalgia. Enchanted is clever in its self-awareness, poking fun at fairy tale clichés while still honouring the beloved Disney formula. The result is a film that's as appealing to adults as it is to kids.

We were surprisingly all quite positive about this one. You might have expected us to give this a right kicking, but not the case! So there!

So, whether you're in it for the nostalgia, the laughs, or just a feel-good family movie night, Enchanted is a perfect pick. Join us as we delve into the magical, musical world of Andalasia and New York City, right here on Bad Dads Film Review. 🎵👸🏙️🎬👨‍👧‍👦🍿

We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. If it hasn't been completely destroyed yet you can usually find us on twitter @dads_film, on Facebook Bad Dads Film Review, on email at baddadsjsy@gmail.com or on our website baddadsfilm.com.

    Potential Pick - Thanksgiving (2023)

    Potential Pick - Thanksgiving (2023)

Chris and Taylor are back from a nice thanksgiving break with a second helping! Here they review the slasher film, Thanksgiving, directed by Eli Roth, from a screenplay written by Jeff Rendell and a story by Roth and Rendell, who produced with Roger Birnbaum. In the film, an axe-wielding maniac terrorizes residents of Plymouth, Mass., after a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy. Picking off victims one by one, the seemingly random revenge killings soon become part of a larger, sinister plan. The film stars Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, Milo Manheim, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Nell Verlaque, Rick Hoffman, and Gina Gershon.

Episode 249: Thanksgiving Special Edition: 'Thanksgiving'

Episode 249: Thanksgiving Special Edition: 'Thanksgiving'

SPOILER ALERT! AS WITH EVERY SPECIAL EDITION WE WILL BE DISCUSSING SPECIFIC PLOT POINTS

Eli Roth is a lot like Rob Zombie. (Or is it the another way around?) That is a bold statement, but we talk about what the two horror fans have in common - and it is not the fact they both had trailers in Grindhouse. The difference is Roth knows how to put together a movie. Still, there have been some missteps along the way. Does Roth let his worst instincts take over Thanksgiving or is it more like the classic Cabin Fever?

It is hard to talk about any high school slasher made in the last quarter century without talking about Scream. The movie deconstructed horror and its influence is still felt. It is a very high bar, and most films do not even come close to meeting that lofty standard. We break down the things that Thanksgiving was able to succeed at and what did not work as well.

Whether they are there to be fodder or provide some level of depth, characters are an important part of any slasher. Thanksgiving has a surprisingly strong cast that do an excellent job getting audiences invested. But the thing most people will watch the movie for are the kills. The opening segment will clue in anyone watching. We discuss how well things were done and one of the most disturbing scenes we have watched all year.
