You may know that part of Patagonia is in Chile, but did you know you can also find 7,000-year-old mummies here? This country is filled with surprises, and there is something for everyone, from surfing and skiing to beaches and hot springs. There are more than 40 national parks, six UNESCO sites, and plenty of award-winning wine. 

I’m joined by Steph Dyson, a travel writer and author of the Moon Chile travel guidebook. Steph spent a year exploring this long and skinny stretch of South America, and she’s here today to share her favorite experiences.

Steph also talks about her passion for supporting restorative tourism, in which indigenous communities invite visitors to learn about their culture, and why we should be calling ‘Easter Island’ Rapa Nui.

Dueño de quesería Las Majadas comenta la actualidad en uno de los valles más pródigos en Chile en lo referido a insumos y bebidas de alta calidad: quesos (los suyos y los tradicionales de cordillera), pisco, vino, frutos secos, hortalizas, disponibles para una comunidad que ha sabido sobrellevar la pandemia sin los sobresaltos de las grandes ciudades. Considera, entre otras cosas, que la crisis puede ser una oportunidad para cierto tipo de turismo gastronómico y hotelería. Una que, por supuesto, está implementando.

Acaba de publicar un informe sobre un panorama turístico y vitivinícola chileno, en medio del crítico panorama que rodea a la actividad. Una conversación en torno a la identidad del vino y sus propuestas de proyección, junto con una reflexión sobre el devenir del pisco ante nuevos hallazgos sobre su historia:

"Tenemos que partir por unificar un sector vitivinícola que está históricamente quebrado desde hace más de 150 años entre el paradigma francés y la vitivinicultura tradicional patrimonial."

"La imagen que se ha construido de vino chileno durante los últimos años es elitista."

"El Estado debe dejar de ver al vino como un enemigo de la sociedad y verlo como un vector de desarrollo económico local."
