Improvisation techniques using the 'Style Menu' for singers, with Kaya Herstad Carney

Improvisation techniques using the 'Style Menu' for singers, with Kaya Herstad Carney
Kaya is an award winning singer/songwriter with her band Science of the Lamps, a passionate artist developer and an authorised Vocology in Practice singing teacher, mentor and teacher trainer through ViP and BAST (Be A Singing Teacher), an artistic director of Threshold Festival, and a general harmony fanatic and vocal geek with an interest in quirky instruments and new experiences. Originally from Norway, Kaya has made England her home since 1999 and has become an established artist with a track record of performances from “Royal Variety Show”, to the “BBC Songwriting Showcase”, from “Liverpool Sound City” to BBC TV’s Last Choir Standing. As well as these prestigious performances, Kaya frequently tours the UK and abroad as a solo artist or with her award winning band ‘Science of the Lamps’. Kaya has supported numerous artists, including Brett Anderson (Suede), Noah and the Whale, The Wombats, Lamb, The Farm and Marina & The Diamonds. As well as working with Seal, Bon Jovi and Ringo Starr. Kaya’s original songs have been played on MTV, National Radio in UK and Norway, and have been a part of three plays, two short films and a full feature film soundtrack for which she won a Silver Award for Best Original Sound Track at the International Independent Film Awards in LA. From 2004-10 Kaya also coordinated and headed up the preliminary judging panel of the “Make it, Break it Awards”; a songwriting contest in collaboration with various partners such as Yamaha, EMI, HMV, British Music Experience, XFM Radio and the PRS. The main judging panel included industry luminaries such as Chris Martin (Coldplay), Harvey Goldsmith, Steve Levine, Guy Moot (Head of A&R EMI), Melanie Armstrong (Rock & Pop Manager HMV), Mark Radcliffe (BBC) and Mike Walsh (Head of Music XFM). Originally from Norway, Kaya has been an integral part of the Liverpool music scene for over a decade, before a big move to London, Summer 2016. Kaya regularly performs and writes her own material, either with “vaudeville dream pop” outfit Science of the Lamps or for other projects; “yet another impressive outlet for her prodigious talent. She may be small but she has a big voice.” (Getintothis) https://kayamusic.com/
