Shot Down: The True Story of Pilot Howard Snyder and His Crew

Shot Down: The True Story of Pilot Howard Snyder and His Crew
SHOT DOWN is set within the framework of World War II in Europe and recounts the dramatic experiences of each member of a ten man B-17 bomber crew after their plane, piloted by author Steve Snyder’s father, was knocked out of the sky by German fighters over the French/Belgium border on February 8, 1944. Some men died. Some were captured and became prisoners of war. Some men evaded capture and were missing in action for months before making it back to England. Their individual stories and those of the courageous Belgian people who risked their lives to help them are all different and are all remarkable. Steve is our guest and will be sharing his 41/2 years research experience that honors his father and the crew of the B-17 Susan Ruth.

Prisoners of war in the Far East

Prisoners of war in the Far East experienced some of the most horrifying and traumatic conditions of the Second World War. But what of the experiences of family members and loved ones left at home during this time?

In this podcast, writer Hilary Custance Green talks about her new book 'Surviving the Death Railway', which is based on her father's personal experiences. Using original records from our collection, Hilary explores how prisoners and their loved ones coped at this time and attempted to rebuild their lives at the end of hostilities.

Honor: Part 4 - Fallen Military & POWs
In today's culture, a lot of people have confused the definition of honor with respect. We have a tendency to hink honor is something we can withhold from someone based on their performance or how much we like them. We'll explore the biblical definition of honor and talk about how much weight honor really carries. Honor is value. And it's something freely given. It's time to rethink what we think about honor.Support the show
