    Psalm 57 - God sings

    Psalm 57 - God sings

I cry out to God Most High, to God, who vindicates me. He sends from heaven and saves me, rebuking those who hotly pursue me— God sends forth his love and his faithfulness. Psalms 57:2-3
"and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.” Psalms 50:15

Psalm 57 is another example of David NEEDING God's help and protection. David is being pursued by Saul and his guards who kill all who helped David, including priests, children and villagers. As a result, David is forced into hiding in a cave and tries to find safety for his family and followers.

AW Tozer writes and reminds us, "God is having a good time in His role. And so let us not think anymore of God as being heavy-browed and gloomy. I repeat that when God made the heaven and earth they sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy. There wasn’t a funeral at the creation of the world; there was an anthem. All creation sang."

Remember Psalm 50:15, God counts it praise for us to ask for His help! Just like He wanted to help David, so God wants to help us! Join me in reading Psalm 57 and be encouraged!

Day 115: King Saul is Spared (2023)

Day 115: King Saul is Spared (2023)
Fr. Mike uses King Saul as an example that God does not unchoose those he has chosen, and never loses faith in us. Even if we feel someone is in power unjustly, it's God who decides who holds power, not us. Today's readings are 1 Samuel 24 and Psalm 57. February 27/22 RESURRECTION FLESH

    February 27/22 RESURRECTION FLESH

Today we have the privilege of celebrating in the Lord’s Supper and we will be wrapping up our series on the Apostle’s Creed by reflecting on Psalm 57 and John 20:24-29, Resurrection Flesh. The creed teaches us under the section the work of the Holy Spirit that we believe in the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. The psalmist takes refuge in God, trusting God to protect him and save him. Jesus comes to save us; he dies on the cross and comes back in his physical body to reassure his disciples that he is truly alive. Jesus comes to restore all creation. The physical creation, including our bodies is central to the redemption Jesus brings.

SNS 85: Allowing God's Word To Speak, Psalm 57

SNS 85: Allowing God's Word To Speak, Psalm 57

Can I say that I find that God working through his Word is truly an amazing thing? Here we have a psalm praising God. The psalmist begins by pleading with God for help and ends by proclaiming that he will “awaken the dawn” the songs of praise. Quite the transformation. Yet the one I’m referring to happened to me as I was preparing this episode. When I first…. Well, let’s first hear the psalm. Then we’ll chat about it.

Also, before beginning, I am proud to say that this podcast is now sponsored by our book, Psalms 1-72, A Simple Not Shallow Presentation. This book is a collection of the Psalms, as heard on the Psalm Tuesday episodes. It is available as a paperback and as an e-book. I will share two links for you in the description of this episode.

But, for now, my name is Charles, Charles Yerkes, and this is Psalm Tuesday here on the Simple Not Shallow Podcast. This podcast is for those who want a deeper faith and not an aggressively mediocre one. Psalm Tuesday is a series in which we will listen to a psalm being read in a manner that honors their original use as part of a worship service. This episode is #85. The psalm for this episode is Psalm 57.
