I Won't Shut Up with Ally Henny

I Won't Shut Up with Ally Henny

Writer Ally Henny joins Sharon today to talk about Bruno. But in this context, Bruno–always around, but only talked about in hushed tones–is race. Ally and Sharon have a candid conversation about the pitfalls of Respectability Politics and how white people can do better when it comes to getting uncomfortable in conversations about race. Ally’s new book, I Won’t Shut Up: Finding Your Voice When the World Tries to Silence You, is a great place to start if you are looking to understand the ways in which racism persists in America today.

If you don’t understand how to manage your money then your chance of achieving financial success and freedom goes to zero. When you don’t know the rules to the game of money it's almost impossible to win. Wallstreet Trapper built the skills he needed to become a fundamental investor, a speaker, a stock market education, and an entrepreneur after doing over 8 years in prison, selling drugs and not having any advantages in life. One of the best things you can consider doing to improve your finances is to get into stocks, learn how to leverage real estate and build a business that generates value. Something you’ll want to consider from this episode: Have you learned the money game Are you prepared to exit the money matrix How can you become an investor What is keeping 99% of people broke QUOTES: “Wealthy people do three things. They stop trading time for money, they make their money work for them and they give as much value to people as they can.” “Just coming up in the streets you only see the game from the lowest level, and you look at everybody else in part admiration and part jealousy.” “Being at the bottom teaches you to envy people at the top.” “Once I broke the game down to a way I could understand it, it wasn’t about me being brilliant , it was like how do I make the game winnable for me” “Everybody won’t be able to build a million dollar business, but everybody can invest in one.” “If you’re bold enough to bet on the future and be patient enough to let it take place you will win and you will win big.” “A dollar that’s not moving is a dollar that’s losing.” Follow Wallstreet Trapper: Website: https://www.wallstreettrapper.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/Wallstreet504 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCR6hXiWOlFWc46qMFMClKHA Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wall_street_trapper/ Sponsors: Visit http://www.RealVision.com/ImpactTheory to save 20% on a full year of access to The Real Vision Academy. The Self-Interested Case for Examining Your Biases | John Biewen

The Self-Interested Case for Examining Your Biases | John Biewen
Too often, the process of looking at your biases can be presented like eating your vegetables. But one of the most fascinating and rewarding things I have attempted to do in recent years is to take a good, hard look at my own prejudices and conditioning, especially as a white man. I still screw up all the time. However, one thing that I think is often underplayed is that doing this work can be deeply enjoyable–and can also pay profound dividends.  One of my most important role models here has been John Biewen, host of a podcast called Scene on Radio. The show has had four seasons, but the seasons that have most impacted me are Seasons 2 and 3. Season 2 is called “Seeing White,” in which he explores white people and whiteness. Season 3 is called “Men,” in which he looks at sexism. I was not surprised to learn that John is a meditator, a practice which, he explains, has helped him as he’s done his work. Also: We're offering 40% off the price of an annual subscription to our companion meditation app–also called Ten Percent Happier–for our podcast listeners. We don’t do discounts of this size all the time, and of course nothing is permanent—so get this deal before it ends on April 1st by going to https://www.tenpercent.com/march.  And here’s a link to this weekend's Love & Resilience Summit, where I'll be presenting: https://promo.lionsroar.com/contemplative-care-summit-register/ Full Shownotes: https://www.tenpercent.com/podcast-episode/john-biewen-333 See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

    In The Air We Breathe

    In The Air We Breathe

After a police-involved shooting, there's often a familiar blame game: Maybe the cop was racist. Maybe the person who was shot really was threatening. Or maybe, the bias that leads cops to shoot affects us all. This week on Hidden Brain, we explore how unconscious bias can infect a culture — and how a police shooting may say as much about a community as it does about individuals.
