Wave that flag! Wear the shirts and hats sporting the red, white and blue.  Shout, "heck ya I'm an American and damn PROUD of it!" Someone told me, "conservatives took ownership of the American flag." No, we just never gave up on it. The extreme left denounced our flag. Spit on it. Burned it. Patriots didn't take ownership. We just OWN being an American. 

What is our purpose? This question has been keeping me up. What are we, as humans, doing here? How should we be spending our limited time on Earth? Are we contributing anything? 

I have a guest. I'm joined by my SON, Caden! Whoop Whoop! This is  a MUST listen. We somehow stumbled upon penis pants??? Which made for an uncomfortable discussion to have with my SON!  We were trying to look up Eldridge. We weren't sure which sports person had the last name, Eldridge? He thought baseball? I thought football?  When we looked it up, a political activist named, Eldrige Clever, popped up?  Apparently, he was not only a political activist. But he was the inventor of the, "penis pants." Look it up.  I'm not joking. Not a great topic to talk about with your SON! So, we move on to other non, PC topics.  

"Still Laughing" is the title of George Schlatter's new book and if you read it, you'll be laughing, too. There are first-hand, hilarious stories on every page and he shares many of them on this podcast episode. Schlatter went from being a Las Vegas bouncer (although he prefers the title, "executive in charge of emergency departures") to being a talent agent, where he struck up an early and valued friendship with Frank Sinatra. He eventually became a TV producer, handling top talent such as Dinah Shore, Judy Garland, Sammy Davis, Jr., Cher and many others.
When he wasn't meeting stars he was making them, especially as the producer of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. Almost overnight, the late '60s, early '70s comedy/variety hour made household names of Goldie Hawn, Lily Tomlin, Arte Johnson, Ruth Buzzi, Gary Owens, JoAnne Worley and many others. He gave a young writer from Toronto a shot -- Lorne Michaels. Not sure whatever happened to him.
Phrases such as "You bet your sweet bippy," "Hear come de judge," and "Sock it to me," swept through schoolyards and suburban homes across North America.
Not everything he tried worked. Schlatter has great stories about his flops, including Turn On, a 1969 experimental series that was canceled on the East Coast before the show was even seen on the West Coast.
Schlatter also talks about his greatest achievement: his 67-year marriage to wife Jolene. The couple donated so many scripts and other artifacts to the National Comedy Centre in Jamestown, N.Y. the place named their theatre after them. 

What's keeping me up? Hollywood, the Kardashians, influencers and the Biden administration. Are we STILL keeping up with the Kardashians? If so, why? Gross. And why do celebrities get all the free shit? Why isn't Joey in a nursing home yet? It's sad. He needs to rest. Why are we giving so much money to the Ukraine and NOT our OWN people? These are a few things keeping me up at night...

What has been keeping me up? Regret. Good ole fashion, regret. Mixed with some guilt and heartbreak. That combination of feelings are NOT good for sleep. Nor is it great for the heart and mind. Not to mention, my skin looks awful! :-) Family issues suck. Being a human can make you want to cry sometimes. But I love my family and being a human. So, I press on....

What's keeping me up? People's intentions. What are they intending? Are they good intentions? What are your intentions when you begin the day? What do you intend to be when you grow up? Intent....interesting word. It holds a lot of weight. Or does it? 

What's keeping me up? Obesity, being ugly on the inside, Darwinism, puppy mills and our borders. I feel it's time for Darwinism to weed out a few. Sorry, not sorry. 

Dementia is running rampant in politics. Most of our government is made up of 80, plus year olds that  should be resting in memory care. NOT running our country!   If they can't drive a car, they can't have keys to nuclear weapons.  What else has been keeping me up? The fact that fire departments, police stations and hospitals cant seem to find employees.  Neat! 

What's keeping me up? Religion, gosspel music, the one year anniversary of my mom's death and the fact that the month of April has always sucked for me. I do not consider myself religious but I do have faith. Or at least, try. George Michael was right, "Ya Gotta Have Faith." I try hard not to lose faith in myself and others. But man, the world ahs been testing me.
