Welcome to episode six of A Proper DBE Podcast brought to you by Daughters of the British Empire.

The Daughters of the British Empire is a 501(c)3 nonprofit American society of women of British or Commonwealth birth or ancestry. We share and promote our heritage while supporting local charities and our senior facilities across the United States.

We are a diverse group of women standing together in friendship and charity, joined by a common bond - the Commonwealth of Nations, learning and growing together.

In this episode, host Georgia Abrams is joined by the following guests:

    • Louise Churchill - Mary Wollstonecraft, Colorado
    • Eileen Eddy - Sir James M. Barrie, Ohio
    • Alanna Eddy - Sir James M. Barrie, Ohio
    • Niki Russell - Somerset House, Kansas

This is the first of many episodes to come all about traditional crafts. We're talking about lace, buttons, and what past queens of Britain may have worn during their time on their throne.

Jen Deluca's Well Met: We Love One (1) Pirate

Jen Deluca's Well Met: We Love One (1) Pirate

Everybody loves a ren faire! Or at least, that’s what Jennifer is counting on this week with her recommendation of Jen Deluca’s rom-com novel Well Met. She’s totally smitten with the romance between renaissance faire organizer Simon and first-time volunteer Emily, who plays the saucy tavern wench to his dashing pirate. Can Jennifer convince Heather to join her in crowning these two shipworthy?

The Power of Desire to Inspire Joy

The Power of Desire to Inspire Joy

My fantasy for 2021 is to gather with hundreds of friends at the Renaissance Faire. What can I say, I’m a girl with a simple dream. After a year of solitude, I crave reconnection and social celebration.  Desire has the ability to inspire us and create amazing memories. What’s your desire for this year and how will you make it happen?

    Episode Highlights

01:30    Imagining dressing up, wandering the forest and being fed delectable treats is sustaining me through another month of solitude

03:15    Leaving the stress, worry, and day-to-day cares like doing laundry or attending zoom calls behind feels like an indescribable luxury

03:50    We get so much joy and happiness from just fantasizing about things we want that I highly recommend it!

04:50    We can stop ourselves from reaching out and making a desire happen by predetermining it is out of our reach

06:44    The sheer joy of planning and coming up with ways to make my fantasy come true

08:19    I am actually more excited about my Ren Faire outfit coming together than I was about my wedding dress 😮

09:17    How often do you let yourself dream big and have an exceptional experience in your life?

10:39    When we share our joys and desires with others, it gives them an opportunity to do the same. Sharing our dreams often results in a great expansion of joy for lots of people – but only if we follow through

12:19    The memories that are made when we allow ourselves to indulge a true desire can last a lifetime

14:13    What is YOUR ultimate celebration? What would you like to create for yourself to reward yourself for getting through this pandemic year?

15:40    How can you build in parameters that honor your limits and capacity for excitement? I am making conscious choices that give me the most of everything I want while allowing space for recovery, too

16:36    What do you need to set up to feel completely safe to enjoy yourself and completely nurtured?

18:10    Planning ahead can allow you the freedom to really let go and enjoy yourself

18:50    Let’s inspire each other and share the love – what are your hopes and desires for this year and how are you putting them into action?

Renaissance Faire + Fairly A Maiden Pt 1

Renaissance Faire + Fairly A Maiden Pt 1

Maren begins a new story – Fairly A Maiden – which she wrote while working at the Renaissance Faire. “The Renaissance Faire,” you say? “But…I thought you were an opera singer?” (Yes, I am multi-faceted. It’s fun. You get to hear how nerdy I really am.)

On the Road in Lititz 2013 (no read)
In an on-the-road Table Read Podcast episode from December 2013, Dennis is joined in Lititz PA by the incomparable Brian Belge, the incomparable David Donovan, and the incomparable Smith Collins, comparatively speaking, for a discussion of actors, acting, improvisation, auditions, personal experiences, and previous events produced and participated in by these guys. Sorry, there was no read this time, and we blame Dave, as is usual when blame is called for, because he had to go home early.
