#274: Bang On Summer Bonus Bang!

#274: Bang On Summer Bonus Bang!

Hi Bang Fam! What this? A surprise little gift for you, as we head into Festivus! Back in November Myf and Zan headed to Nagambie Lakes, a beautiful spot about 90 mins north of Melbourne, for a huge comedy weekender called Comedy In the Vines. We did a live version of Bang On, amongst stand up sets from Celia Pacquola, Dave Hughes, Geraldine Hickey, and Susie Youssef.

It was very silly, it was a bit windy, and we definitely made a giant cut out of ourselves and forced Luke McGregor to play “pin the wine on Myf and Zan”… but we also had some wonderful Bang Backs with two very funny comedians and mates, and wanted to share that with you.

So dive in, as Rhys Nicholson bangs on about a podcast Zan is absolutely bingeing this summer, and Luke… well… you should just hear it yourself.

Oh, and we’re very stoked that we’ll finally be bringing Bang On LIVE to the whole country! We’ve just announced a huge national tour, visiting places we’ve never been before and bringing Bang On to capital cities and towns alike. We hope to see you at one of the shows. Until then, have a safe, restful, and beautiful New Years. Thank you for your love and support of Bang On this and every year. We love youse heaps. See you in 2024. x

    Farewell, 2023 and Benjamin Law

    Farewell, 2023 and Benjamin Law

Stop Everything! It's a big one this week.

It's our final show before we break for summer, and we're wrapping the year in pop culture with two of our favourite members of the Stop Everything! cinematic universe: comedian, author and Drag Race Down Under judge, Rhys Nicholson; and broadcaster, film and tv critic and Stop Everything! fill-in cohost, Wenlei Ma.

And — we are farewelling co-host Benjamin Law, who's stepping back from Stop Everything! After SIX years, so he can focus on some big exciting and non-disclosable projects in 2024. BW and BL tell their Stop Everything! origin story, laugh through a classy selection of bloopers and hug it out as they close the book on a very special era of the show.

We're sad but we're also excited! Because Stop Everything! continues in 2024 in a new format, with BW hosting solo and welcoming a rotating roster of guest critics each week to talk all things pop culture.

Will Smith, Chris Rock and THE OSCARS SLAPÂ

Will Smith, Chris Rock and THE OSCARS SLAPÂ

We’re talking about what happened at the Oscars when Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s shaved head.

We can’t stop thinking about Will Smith slapping Rock on live television, his Oscars acceptance speech and all the commentary that has ensued in the aftermath.

Then comedian Rhys Nicholson is our guest. Rhys talks about why he’s not mentioning the pandemic in his new comedy show and what it’s like to be a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under.

Theatre dorks Zoë Coombs Marr and Anne-Louise Sarks get serious

Incoming Melbourne Theatre Company artistic director Anne-Louise Sarks has a reputation for bringing the best out of people. She speaks about her process with her friend and collaborator, Zoë Coombs Marr — who delights in bringing Anne-Louise down a peg or two.

Also, not content to highlight the work of just one Legend of Australian Theatre, Zoë attempts to double the series' output with a quickfire round and we hear a scene from Finegan Kruckemeyer's timely new play Hibernation at the State Theatre Company South Australia.

The Moment Married At First Sight Hit A New Low

The Moment Married At First Sight Hit A New Low

    On the show today…

Stan has today announced that Australian comedian Rhys Nicholson will be the third judge on the upcoming season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under.

And Australians have finally been granted access (legally, at least) to the much talked about New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears, which aired last night on Channel Nine and it’s safe to that viewers were left extremely angry.

Plus, in today's deep dive...last night kicked off Confession Week on Married At First Sight to see how couples navigate honesty. The result?  Not that. Today we dissect this monumental disaster in addition to the social experiment.

#5 Geoffrey Winters Walks Us Through The Marriage Act

#5 Geoffrey Winters Walks Us Through The Marriage Act
He was the young, gay, indigenous lawyer running for the Liberal Party against the powerful Tanya Plibersek in Sydney. And now he's in our lounge room. Answering our dumb questions.
Geoffrey Winters explained the racial origins of the marriage act and what you actually do and don't have to do (and say and NOT say)to get married - and what he thinks on the whole thing.
He also has a terrific story about the gay staffer who wrote themselves out of weddings - but into porn. Yeah, it's incredible.
Also our names are Kyran Wheatley and Rhys Nicholson. And the effortless pop gem you hear is by the incredible Brendan Maclean. Look him up. He's amazing.
And subscribe so you don't miss anything, because we kind of just are going to make eps and put them up rather than keep some sort of schedule.
And tell a friend about us - most important. If this debate is going to get ugly we want to be the place where we actually hear what people think. If you reckon you know someone else who would like that... tell them about Save The Date.
Oh and our predictions for the Date to Save haven't changed.
Ok. Enjoy, see you next time.
