    Galaxy Quest (1999)

    Galaxy Quest (1999)

This week, we bid happy retirement to a listener to got the shaft from his employer, then realized he already had enough money to retire. Rob P. has been a longtime listener of both Shat on TV and Shat The Movies, and his film commission is nothing short of stellar.

Boldly going where no Shatter has gone before, Rob chose a movie released in the final week of the '90s. And though "Galaxy Quest" never broke the top 5 in the box office, it might be the greatest sci-fi parody of all time.

Gene Lyons, Roger Roeper, and Dick Ebert break down the difference between Trekkies and Trekkers, celebrate Galaxy Quest's outstanding casting, and contemplate the proper approach to sex with aliens.

Rog and Gene also swap tales from Comic-Con, with Gene recounting how he stole from Lou Ferrigno and Rog worshipping Alec Baldwin's blue-collar roots.

And, of course, we had to imitate Thermians and talk about boobs. Because we're adults.

Reese says Ron should have died and Harry & Hermione end up together. Teej = NO

Everyone rejects Cursed Child and Annie admits she dressed up as George.

Finally, we contemplate the most important question: What is the WORST flavor of Bertie’s Beans? The answers will horrify you and make you snort!

    Dogma

    Dogma

Easter is coming, so it’s time to cover a religious movie for the Next 147 Project. Catholic foul-mouth Kevin Smith bites off a lot more in this one than he ever had before, but he still manages to jam in a lot of jokes…often extraordinarily crass ones. As for the acting, Alan Rickman and Chris Rock shine. Jason Mewes does too, even though he is the king of those sex-obsessed, crass jokes. Linda Fiorentino in the lead role didn’t work out as well and Smith’s technical style, as always, is impressive to no one. Still, there are some big ideas and some touching stuff here. Plus, there’s probably never been a cuter and quirkier deity ever portrayed on a movie screen.

Episode 06 - It's a Christmas movie. So why do we care?

If you're going to talk Die Hard, you cannot avoid the meme/debate over whether or not it's a Christmas movie. We discuss why it is (and okay, a few reasons why not), but more importantly, why we care about the question in the first place. What does Christmas mean to us, and how do pop culture traditions factor in? Let us know what you think! Episode 05 - Roderick Thorp's Nothing Lasts Forever

Episode 05 - Roderick Thorp's Nothing Lasts Forever

Almost a decade before there was Die Hard, there was Nothing Lasts Forever. While it sounds like a lost James Bond film, it's actually the book that Die Hard was based on. That's right – Die Hard was based on a book. Roderick Thorp was a crime novelist who met success with 1966's The Detective, which first spawned a movie adaptation, and then a sequel: Nothing Lasts Forever. Simone and special in-studio guest Daniel Walker (who is special because he actually read the damn book) discuss the life of Roderick Thorp, the origins of Nothing Lasts Forever, and how the movie aligns with – and deviates from – the book that inspired it.
