Did Butch Cassidy Die In Bolivia? His Great Nephew Says No

Bill Betenson is Butch Cassidy's great nephew and says that his great grandmother insisted that Cassidy came back to visit his family in Utah in 1925, seventeen years after his supposed death in a Bolivian shootout. While myths of outlaws surviving their supposed deaths are common, Bill and his great grandmother share a very convincing story and DNA evidence also makes the time and place of Cassidy's death highly questionable. Season 3, Episode 2: A Bridge Too Far (1977)

Well as you know, I've always thought we went a podcast too far...

The Film Nerds are here with a deep examination of one of the greatest forgotten war epics of all time - and one of the biggest independent productions in the industry's history. Hear the history of how the Allies arrived at Operation Market Garden, how legendary producer Joseph E Levine got hooked on the story of the battle & compelled the film forward, how the tale of hubris & Pyrrhic victory struggled to connect with the audiences of the 1970s, and much more! Our early season foray into epic filmmaking gets an independent twist that you won't want to miss!

    Episode 32: 1973 - The Sting

    Episode 32: 1973 - The Sting

On this episode of 'Revisiting the Oscars' we're headed back 50 years in time to 1973 to revisit the top films of the year, led by none other than arguably the greatest ever horror movie in William Friedkin's The Exorcist.

We're also running a long con a ruthless crime boss in The Sting, falling out with our sisters in Cries & Whispers, having a transatlantic affair in A Touch of Class and driving around aimlessly in 1950s America in American Graffiti.

All this and the usual nonsense, banter and fun facts!

Los Angeles-based literary manager Jarrod Murray returns to the show to discuss Robert Redford's 'Quiz Show', a true story of the massive 1950s scandal that revealed to the American public for the first time that the burgeoning television industry and the levers of power that control media were capable of profound deceit.

We discuss the film's many iterations, possible directors, and might-have-been performances as well as the incredibly deep bench of performers the film ultimately wound up with (including great character actors like David Paymer, Hank Azaria, Griffin Dunne, and even a wonderful turn from director Martin Scorsese). Then we discuss the real story behind the film, and the ways director Robert Redford and screenwriter Paul Attanasio grapple with the quiz show scandal's multifaceted ramifications in the era after the post-war boom. Finally, we discuss the film's legacy, or lack thereof, and why this film may not have found its deserved purchase with viewers in the 90s and why there's still room for it to be reclaimed in 2023.

    Havana & Dick Tracy

    Havana & Dick Tracy
After a two month hiatus, Overlapping Dialogue makes its triumphant return with our 71st edition, kicking off a 10 episode look at one of the most widely beloved periods in contemporary film history: the 1990s! But before we travel back in time to the era of Beanie Babies and horrific homegrown domestic terrorism, we sort through a Blue Plate Special gauntlet tacking a slew of new releases in Cocaine Bear, 65, Renfield, and the much anticipated Beau is Afraid. And don't worry, we even find some time to return to our semi-recurring segment on the Airport franchise of the 70s, this time with Airport '77. Upon sorting through wreckage literal and figurative, we finally arrive at this episode's subject features, both from 1990: Havana and Dick Tracy. Listen as we discuss the handsome yet unimaginative direction of Sydney Pollack, the cartoonish insanity that inherently comes along with adapting Chester Gould for the big screen, and the larger connection both films share of aging movie stars going about their fading relevance in decidedly different ways.
