Going Micro-Mobile — From Branson to Brooklyn

Going Micro-Mobile — From Branson to Brooklyn

It's been a long, languid summer of dog-sitting and conference-hopping, but the Yonder Boys are back on the mic with hot takes on cool news from the new mobility conversation.

First up: Iron Man (aka Robert Downey Jr.) turns muscle cars into EV marvels to reach a cabal of cable TV audiences.

Next:  Country music capital Branson, Missouri redefines the Boot Scoot Boogie on its way to becoming America's own Ho Chi Minh City.

We wrap the news with New York's unexpected fallout from e-bike-mania: batteries catching fire.

And it's in Gotham we stay as we welcome entrepreneur Shabazz Stuart, founder and CEO of Oonee, a bike infrastructure service, talking about his plans to give bike commuters a sense of security, convenience, and community. Amen!

Finally, we go full rant on certain tax incentives showering EV buyers.  Sounds awesome, right? We have thoughts.

Tune in. Turn on. Drive less.

    Back to School (1986)

    Back to School (1986)

Dick and Gene agree "Back to School" is Rodney Dangerfield's best movie, but does it deserve mention among the greatest '80s comedies? Not if you ask Ash.

This 1986 college classic, commissioned by a listener who himself is going back to school, reminded the Shat Crew that Dangerfield has crazy eyes, Robert Downey Jr. was an adorable little scamp, and Big D is oblivious to racism in film.

In this episode, we pay homage to Burt Young, learn how to tell if your child is lying, debate appropriate classroom behavior, discover a new kind of jock bully and ask the crucial question: "Where did all the college bars go?"

'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' (feat. Thomas Greene of Movies After Work)

'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' (feat. Thomas Greene of Movies After Work)

Shane Black is a name that tends to elicit either unbridled enthusiasm or consternation from moviegoers. Black started out as an actor before hitting it big as the legendary screenwriter of Lethal Weapon. Then in 2005, he made the leap to directing his own scripts. And this episode, Thomas Greene of Movies After Work joins us to discuss Black's directorial debut, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang stars a pre-Iron Man Robert Downey Jr., a post-Batman Val Kilmer, and a star-making turn by Michelle Monaghan. The film's blend of noir subject matter and buddy cop energy turned it into a cult classic for some, despite its box office underperformance. But Thomas and I will delve into how it was a pivotal movie for not only those involved but him as well.

We'll discuss how accurately Black captures the Los Angeles scene, why the movie impacted Thomas' own writing, and which of the movie's three lead performances ultimately steals the movie.

    SYNOPSIS
Two-bit crook Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey Jr.) stumbles into an audition for a mystery film while on the run from the cops. Winning the part, he lands in Hollywood, where he's flung into a tangled, murderous conspiracy with his childhood sweetheart, Harmony Lane (Michelle Monaghan), and hard-boiled private eye Perry van Shrike (Val Kilmer).

STEPHANIE SZOSTAK: The Importance of Mental Health As An Artist

STEPHANIE SZOSTAK: The Importance of Mental Health As An Artist

French-American, Stephanie Szostak (show-stack) acts, writes and speaks.

She is currently starring on ABC’s hit series A MILLION LITTLE THINGS, is working on a book called "Oh The TiDDies You'll Grow!" and speaks to various organizations (from corporate to non-profits supporting immigrant women, teens and mental health) encouraging people to "find their truth... with love & humor."

Szostak got a late start on the acting scene (age 30) and had the willingness to disrupt her life, leaving her career in the corporate world behind to seek an authentic life. Over the past decade, she has played alongside Meryl Streep, Robert Downey Jr., Jeff Bridges, Steve Carrell, Paul Rudd, Matt Damon, Kevin Bacon, Ryan Reynolds and more.

Transforming her own false starts, setbacks, rejection and loss, she brings forward relatable and impactful stories to help anyone embrace their uniqueness. As part of that mission, she is passionate about encouraging people to discover their own truth and individuality.

From being told "You should have never happened" as her career grew so did the pressure, causing her performance to be negatively affected by feelings of unworthiness and fear. In response, she began to work on her mental game and looked to the actors she was intimidated by for answers. She was surprised to learn they too suffered from negative inner dialogue. This pushed her to address mindset and discover its interconnection with performance. Fascinated by what she learned, she created her own “playbook” to incorporate new skills to be more confident and playful when the red light turned on.

Knowing she is where she is only thanks to the help of so many, Stephanie thrives to help and connect people to support their pursuit of their darn naked truth!

Most notable projects include The Devil Wears Prada, Ironman 3, Dinner for Schmucks, We Bought a Zoo, ABC’s hit series, A Million Little Things and USA Network series, Satisfaction.
