Into the Kingdom Retreat, Day 3: "Rocketman" Movie Talk by David

Into the Kingdom Retreat, Day 3: "Rocketman" Movie Talk by David
In this session from the evening of day three of the Into the Kingdom retreat, David gives a talk on the movie "Rocketman" (2019) which gives us a glimpse into the life of Elton John and dramatically displays the ups and downs of international stardom and his own call for love.

David also explains why he started many years ago to use movies for healing the mind. Jesus had guided him to be attentive to his feelings when he was watching movies. The mind's awareness expands when you consciously decide to look at it and become more and more detached from all the thoughts and beliefs that are occupying it.

Enjoy this beautiful commentary and watch the movie "Rocketman" (2019) afterwards. David highly recommends it.

This session was recorded during the Into the Kingdom retreat in the evening of October 9, 2019, at the Castle De Berckt in Holland.

Ep.34 - Why Jukebox Musicals are Manipulative Rubbish

In this week’s episode, Gary and Gavin discuss the recent slew of ‘Jukebox Musicals’ and why they’re really fed up with them. But because those films inspire so little interest, the boys quickly veer off into an onslaught of nonsense and non-sequiturs. Join them for a truly meandering episode that lives up to the name more than perhaps any other episode in quite some time!

120 - Biopsy: ROCKETMAN "Robb Stark gets bottom billing"

120 - Biopsy: ROCKETMAN "Robb Stark gets bottom billing"

This is the pilot episode of our new sidecar project Biopsy!

Our new show format recaps BioPics in a loose, funny way and we'll drop occasional episodes into your regular Sup Doc feed.

We think BioPics are the real life version of our game Cast This Doc. We hope you enjoy it and let us know what Bi-OP-Pics you want us to cover.

On the premiere episode we look at Rocketman (Dexter Fletcher, 2019) about the life and music of Elton John. Yes THAT Elton John. Both George and Paco agree that Rocketman is a formulaic, paint-by-numbers biopic. One glaring problem was that the musical numbers are not in order of when the songs were released. Rocketman begins oddly at a moment of a huge crossroad in Elton's career, then backtracks to show us how he ended up there—a narrative device that already was a cliché when “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story” parodied it back in 2007. Taron Egerton does an admirable job with what he's given.

Paco and George also talk about how Rocketman is seemingly prepackaged for the Broadway stage, packed with Elton John hits you’ve known and maybe loved for decades. And of course what self-respecting biopic would not have plenty of montages: the obligatory scenes of Elton hits rising up the charts and racking up, all the gold records and the sex and drugs that go along with the rock ‘n’ roll.

Correction: Not Bernie Maupin nor Armistead Maupin but Bennie Maupin and he's not a piano player but a reed player.

    Rocketman

    Rocketman
Following in the footsteps of Bohemian Rhapsody, will Rocketman hit the same heights or will the Elton John pic 'go breaking our heart'. We 'sacrificed' our team and hopefully will still be standing after the film.

Apologies for the puns. Sorry seems to be the hardest word.
