Major Abortion Ruling By SC: Both Married, Unmarried Women Can Terminate Pregnancy of 20-24 Weeks

In a progressive step towards the rights of women in India, the Supreme Court today ruled in favour of safe and legal abortion, not only for married but also for unmarried women. In the course of pronouncing the ruling, the court also made certain observations on Marital Rape. The three judge bench of the Supreme Court led by Justice DY Chandrachud, included justice AS Bopanna, and justice JB Pardiwala. The court said that unmarried women cannot be denied safe and legal abortion under the medical termination of pregnancy act. In that regard, both married and unmarried women have the equal rights. The court further said that the scope of law will also cover abortion in case of a marital rape. But Marital rape in this case is only limited to the ambit of this law. What is the law and why is this ruling a big step towards female reproductive rights in India, and what will be the far reaching impact of it, let us understand in today’s video:

Comigo no estúdio, a Dra.

Pride Month Series: This is only the beginning

Pride Month Series: This is only the beginning

Genesis Women's Shelter & Support offers domestic violence services to everyone who identifies as a woman. To improve access to services for all intimate partner violence survivors in need of safety, shelter & support, Genesis The Podcast is launching a Pride Month Podcast Series focused on intimate partner violence (IPV) in LGBTQIA+ relationships.

Each episode in this series is a dialogue with survivors and/or experts highlighting the needs and issues of IPV survivors in the LGBTQIA+ community as well as possible solutions for improved responses to their experiences. Our hope is that this dialogue will grow into new collaborations across communities that expand our understanding of IPV, reduce its prevalence, and provide more equitable responses and services for all survivors of IPV in LGBTQIA+ relationships. Media consultant Ron Corning joins the conversation as co-host and interviewer for the series, offering critical insights into IPV among LGBTQIA+ partners.

Though Pride Month 2022 is coming to a close, this is only the beginning of our exploration of IPV in LGBTQIA+ relationships. In this episode, we recap our learning and in doing so expose its gaps and opportunities by expanding on services available to men in abusive relationships with The Family Place - 1 of just 2 organizations in the United States who serve all individuals who identify as men. We also have an open discussion about the signs of abuse, the prevalence of both hatred and abuse toward the LGBTQIA+ community, the alarming risk of suicide among LGBTQIA+ youth, and how anyone experiencing abuse can access safety, shelter, and support that meets their unique needs.

A message to the community from Genesis Women's Shelter & Support: As it relates to the mission of Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support, we stand in solidarity with women who have experienced abuse. We stand for women who have no choice. We stand for women who have no voice. We will continue to work day in and day out to empower women to live abuse-free, to think independently and to make their own decisions regarding their physical, financial, spiritual and emotional safety.

Abortion Rights (Roe Vs Wade Reaction)

Abortion Rights (Roe Vs Wade Reaction)

Be warned, this isn't our usual fun episode. We give a rational critique of the decision to overturn Roe Vs Wade - including facts about abortion, what happens when abortion is made illegal, who tends to get abortions and why, what makes people opposed to abortion, and when is a foetus a life. And of course, it wouldn't be complete if a Matt Walsh clip didn't make an appearance.

Episode 110: Discussing Tho Overturning of Roe vs. Wade with Kevin McGary of Every Black Life Matters

Episode 110: Discussing Tho Overturning of Roe vs. Wade with Kevin McGary of Every Black Life Matters

With the news in recent  leak coming out of the Supreme Court that the landmark case of Roe vs. Wade will be overturned in the very near future, I thought it only made sense to reach out to my friend Kevin McGary of Every Black Life Matters. You may remember Kevin from our conversation back in Episode 88 of the podcast when he made his first DTH appearance.

One of the core principles of the Every Black Life Matters organization is fighting for Real Justice for all human life, from womb to tomb. Our conversation includes misconceptions of what the overturning of Roe Vs. Wade actually means,  the misguided hostility on the part of some because of what they think it will lead to, and so much more.  (including a very defined distinction between Black Lives Matter and Every Black Life Matters)

Do Black Lives Matter? Of course they do!! Kevin McGary will tell you "EVERY BLACK LIFE matters"...

Other principles that Every Black Life Matters stands for:

    • REAL  justice from womb to tomb
    • Nuclear family
    • Active fatherhood
    • Free markets
    • Educational choice
    • Criminal justice reform
    • Non-violence

The State of abortion policy and access in India

The State of abortion policy and access in India

In the United States, there is much ongoing discussion around a leaked draft opinion by the US supreme court that reveals that the landmark Roe V Wade judgment, which protected abortion rights in the country, is likely to be overturned.

This discussion has gone beyond the powers of the judiciary in the US and has been centred around women’s rights and the importance of safe and legal abortions. Such a discussion needs to be global, even in countries where abortion is not as contentious an issue. Such as India, where despite abortion being legal since 1971, the state of women’s reproductive rights is far from ideal.

Priyal Lyncia D’ Almeida, Aarushi Kataria and Atish Padhy discuss the state of abortion access and policy in India.

The episode references the following articles and studies:

    1. A Womb of One's Own: Privacy and Reproductive Rights

    2. India’s amended abortion law still gives doctors, not women, the final say in terminating pregnancy

    3. The incidence of abortion and unintended pregnancy in India, 2015

Episode 108: Does Free Speech Mean More Hate Speech?... with Dan Garscia of FAIR Twin Cities

Episode 108: Does Free Speech Mean More Hate Speech?... with Dan Garscia of FAIR Twin Cities

In this week’s episode, I am joined again by my friend Dan Garscia of FAIR Twin Cities. We’re shaking things up a little this week and doing things a bit different. Some current events have been on my mind as they are quite divisive, bringing out the hate in a lot of folks, so I’ve asked my friend Dan to join me for a conversation on those topics.

Our conversation starts with a discussion on Free Speech and Elon Musk’s pending purchase of Twitter. The mere thought of an individual proposing a “free speech” environment, purchasing the social media platform has many (of a certain mindset) apoplectic…

A whole lot of hate has been on display over the past week regarding the leaked Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade… There are an awful lot of misconceptions and ignorance floating around the internet ecosystem on this topic, and as the DTH listeners know, ignorance tends to lead to a whole bunch of HATE…

The perpetual victim mentality was on full display again this past week here in the state in which I live, Minnesota, when the mother of Daunte Wright decided to confront police with some attitude after seeing a high-risk arrest taking place along a Minnesota highway. This is not helpful and just leads to enhanced problems and hate…

So grateful to have been joined again by my friend Dan Garscia of FAIR Twin Cities for this conversation. If you’re in the Minneapolis/St Paul area and you want to learn more about the great work FAIR (Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism) is doing, FAIR Twin Citie's quarterly event may be of interest…
