    Teaching the Truth

    Teaching the Truth

Retired Florida professor Marvin Dunn has been dismayed at recent efforts to battle so-called critical race theory and limit the way educators can talk about race. Last year, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law the Stop WOKE Act, which mandated that public schools teach race in a manner where students would not “feel guilt, anguish, or other forms of psychological distress for actions, in which he or she played no part.”

Like many educators, Dr. Dunn feared this would create an environment where teaching hard truths about history is discouraged. He decided to start the Teach the Truth tour.

This week, Trymaine Lee hops on the tour bus with Into America to speak with Dr. Dunn and students about what’s at stake when it comes to learning the truth about American history. They visit historic sites related to the Ocoee Massacre, the lynching of Willie James Howard, and the Black town of Rosewood, which was destroyed a hundred years ago by a white mob.

Session 12: Contributions to America’s Economic Wealth

Your Host: Shyra DeJuan  is challenging you to be open to learn how African Americans have contributed to the United States Economy. Also, follow a detailed timeline of events that were removed and erased from American History. This episode dives deep into how government agencies such as the FBI and CIA had an impact on the Civil Rights Movement and other political organizations over the years. Just because people have criminalized & dehumanized a whole race of people does not make it the reality. After listening, you may be forced to ask yourself the following driving questions.…Why isn't slavery discussed as capitalism in History Lessons? Who does America really belong to? Who are the real terrorists in America? How is racism justified? Can we pretend the oppression of African American people is not real? What type of person is really considered a true American Patriot?

Episode 132: 100th anniversary of Rosewood Massacre

Episode 132: 100th anniversary of Rosewood Massacre

On January 1, 1923, dubious claims of a sexual assault from a white woman against an unidentified Black man in the small community of Rosewood between Gainesville and Cedar Key set off a sequence of events that would leave untold numbers of people killed and Rosewood burned to the ground.
The event was completely forgotten and erased, except by those who experienced it and lingering myths and rumors in the area.
Then Gary Moore visited in 1982, completely unaware of what had happened there, stumbled on the story, and began reporting for the St. Petersburg Times, reporting which eventually led to his book, "Rosewood: The Full Story."

    Collapse: Holiness

    Collapse: Holiness

This week Pastor Austin starts his new series on Lamentations called Collapse. God’s love cannot be contained or controlled, either. Meaning that in the uncontainable, uncontrollable mystery of God, there is a love, mercy, goodness, and grace that is so great it also cannot be contained or controlled.

    Acts: Love over Law

    Acts: Love over Law

Pastor Austin delivers a bonus sermon from his Summer Acts series. He finishes the outcome of the council at Jerusalem from Acts 15. What if we valued being right with one another over being right? Might that in fact draw us closer to the call of the church to be a witness of God’s love and grace

    Acts: Grace on the Line

    Acts: Grace on the Line

Pastor Austin finishes our Summer series on Acts with his sermon "Grace on the Line". Acts 15 is the affirmation and confirmation that holiness is the result of salvation, not the way to salvation. If tradition impedes this, then there’s a problem. So also, if innovation impedes this, we have a problem. Because We should not make it difficult for Gentiles who are turning to God.” (Acts 15:19).

    Acts: Failure?

    Acts: Failure?

Pastor Austin continues in Acts focusing on chapter 14. In his message "Failure?" he reminds us that as Christians no matter the unmet expectation we face. No matter the outcome of faithfulness. No matter whether we are on the mountaintop or the valley, we know how the story ends.
