    #052 - Blade Runner
Lasst Euch überraschen was dann auf euch zukommt.
    1. Violent Femmes - Add It Up
    2. The Invincible Spirit - Riverside

    Blade Runner [1982]

Jackie and Greg get soaked in the perpetually rainy, smog-choked Los Angeles of the future for Ridley Scott's BLADE RUNNER from 1982. Topics of discussion include a comparison of the many different cuts of the film, how it works better as a mood piece than a detective story, the elaborate sets and special effects, and a debate on the age-old question: is Deckard a replicant?

    Blade Runner

    Blade Runner

BLADE RUNNER (1982) is director Ridley Scott's sci-fi masterpiece; a huge influence on both movies and popular culture as a whole, a nightmarish vision of the future, a triumph of world building, lighting, and sound design with still excellent looking special effects and also it's a total bore. Set in the grimy, rain-soaked streets of a dystopian 2019 Los Angeles, Harrison Ford stars as Rick Deckard, a weary ex-cop forced back into his old job as a 'Blade Runner', assigned to hunt down and 'retire' renegade androids known as replicants, including their inspirational leader, Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer). Way too slow and featuring an unconvincing love story, the amoral Deckard is a singularly uninteresting character, who manages to be completely devoid of anything approaching charisma, something of an achievement from the man who was Han Solo and Indiana Jones. Multiple cuts of the movie have ruined the ambiguity of the original theatrical release which is still the definitive version.

Ladyhawke - What Makes a Film Prime Remake Material?

Ladyhawke - What Makes a Film Prime Remake Material?

    MOVIE DISCUSSION:

Melanie, Daniel, and Melvin talk Ladyhawke, Richard Donner’s fantasy family film featuring Rutger Hauer, Michelle Pfieffer, and Matthew Broderick.

    Topics:

    • (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 35-minutes talking about two Disney animated science-fiction box-office failures, Lightyear and Strange World, their absurdly confusing marketing campaigns, and how their lack of success isn't a surprise for keen-eyed film fans (PATREON EXCLUSIVE)
    • Melanie specifically wanted to hear what Melvin and Dan thought of Ladyhawke. Melvin, for some reason, initially thought Ladyhawke was a wrestling movie.
    • Melvin shares his strange fixation on Matthew Broderick.
    • Melanie has been thinking about “remakes” a lot, and apart from the nostalgic joy she has with Ladyhawke, she’s been thinking about what would make for a good remake of this charismatic fantasy flick.
    • For Melvin, a remake, reboot, or sequel doesn't necessarily need to be tied down to anything, it merely needs to be in conversation with its predecessor in some fashion. He also proposes practical, fun ideas for a theoretical remake of LadyHawke.
    • For Daniel, remakes are only interesting if they adopt ideas or messages and re-adopt them with new information. In other words, how does a political thriller change when the world changes?
    • Some movies, even as you watch them, feel like they need a remake. Melvin proposes a couple.
    • Remakes, ironically, are also very final. It declares that the old canon is over and that a new canon is being established.

Alex and Matt are two of Joel's oldest friends, so who better to discuss Blade Runner, the ultimate film about friendship?
Chris loves Harrison Ford's goofy persona, Joel realises it's not the ultimate film about friendship, Alex thinks Gaff is the worst detective and Matt wonders if you can replicate a replicant? A replireplicant?

    #083 - CROSSWORLDS (1996)

Hey, endlich mal was mit richtigen Dimensionsreisen!
