    Primal Fear feat. Jesse Hawken

    Primal Fear feat. Jesse Hawken

Jesse Hawken, host of Junk Filter Podcast, returns to the show to discuss 'Primal Fear'. The film is a taut piece of middlebrow entertainment which offers maximum reward as a cable classic.

We discuss the film's two standout performances - one from aging handsome guy Richard Gere as a hotshot attorney looking for his next big break, the other from then-newcomer Edward Norton who took audiences by storm and wound up on the short list of actors nominate for an Academy Award for their very first film performance. Then, we talk the movie's famous twist ending, and the way that it betrays an uncomfortably reactionary streak that resonated with audiences in mid-90s America. Finally, we have some words about the death of the midbudget cable classic, and look at the current state of the industry vis-a-vis the tandem strike efforts from the WGA and SAG-AFTRA.

YNFA 040. Young Guns, or the Styled Bunch

YNFA 040. Young Guns, or the Styled Bunch

Toss back that gorgeous mullet and shoot before you ask as we ride off into the sunset with the 1988 Brat Pack classic Young Guns. How many more enjoyable Westerns could we have watched instead of this? (Answer: all of them.) Is this movie the nail in the coffin for the Dermot Mulroney vs Dylan McDermott debate just because of how unarguably revolting "Dirty" Stephens is? Which is longer, the eventual heat death of the universe or this movie? Find out these answers and more life lessons under Terence Stamp’s tough love tutelage.

"Lovable Idiot" Reformed | SNL's Bobby Moynihan on Fatherhood, Playfulness, Self Care

What do a sheep with a jetpack, a drunk uncle, and a pot smoking manatee have in common? They’re all hilarious characters from the brilliant mind of actor/comedian Bobby Moynihan. The Saturday Night Live alum joins Adam and Marc to swap dad stories, drop a little sage advice about meditation, and talk about his new children’s book “Not All Sheep are Boring!” Spoiler alert: some are actually quite dull. Stick around after the interview for another installment of the sensational new segment Kisses & Disses.

Episode 74 opens with a brief discussion about the upcoming Halloween season, including chatting briefly about SNL's now famous "Haunted Elevator" sketch featuring Tom Hanks as David S. Pumpkins. The guys share some laughs about Bobby Moynihan, the talented SNL alum who, since leaving SNL, has created and appeared in multiple TV shows, movies, and cartoons. Bobby is welcomed into the conversation to discuss fatherhood and the inspiration behind his new kids' bedtime story "Not All Sheep Are Boring!" Conversation topics Include:

    • How being a father has changed in the past couple of years
    • The inspiration for the unique characters in his new book
    • Bobby's dream for his young daughter to one day organically discover SNL
    • How Bobby's comedy style shifted after becoming a dad
    • Being on SNL vs being a dad
    • The benefits of breathing and mindfulness
    • And more!

After the interview, the guys follow up Episode 73's inaugural "Kisses + Disses" segment with a second rip-roaring installment.

Balancing Fame With Fatherhood | Actor Terry O'Quinn on Parenting, LOST, Getting Recognized

Balancing Fame With Fatherhood | Actor Terry O'Quinn on Parenting, LOST, Getting Recognized

You might be known as “sir” to your subordinates, “doc” to your patients, or “officer” to the person you're handcuffing. But to your kids, you're just plain old "dad"... even when you're on the big screen opposite Luke Wilson or expertly throwing knives on The Island. In Episode 7, we chat with veteran actor Terry O’Quinn about his on screen roles, as well as the role he didn't have to audition for: Hunter and Oliver's dad.

In Episode 7, Marc and Adam commiserate about heartbreaking daycare drop offs and the importance of consistency and routine. They introduce guest Terry O'Quinn, whose storied career includes roles in The Stepfather I and II, The Rocketeer, Millennium, Heaven's Gate, Star Trek, The X-Files, Patriot, Perpetual Grace, Ltd., and of course, LOST.

Terry shares stories from his own childhood, growing up one of 11 siblings with a father who was also his school principal, and being a young actor raising two boys in Maryland. We learn what life was like for his sons both before and after "Terry O'Quinn" became a household name. Other topics we discuss include:

    • Moving your family around the country for months at a time
    • Going to see a movie that you didn't know your DAD was in
    • Terry's parenthood advice for young actors
    • The rise of "binge watching" and "watch parties"
    • What NOT to say in the delivery room when you set eyes on your newborn for the first time

Keep you eyes on ModernDadhood.com for the full conversation with Terry.

The boys wrap up the episode with a rousing game of "Talkin' With Toddlers," and open it up to the dads listening to decipher the final sound byte. Dads, cast your vote -- hey@moderndadhood.com
