Should Forrest Gump have defeated Pulp Fiction and The Shawshank Redemption in the much-discussed race for the 1995 Oscar for Best Picture? No, Quiz Show should have. But has it earned its place as a new classic? a pop culture touchstone? iconic American cinema? One thing's for sure: We had some microphone issues during our "What did Frank watch this week segment?" and you can barely hear Diego.

    Episode #396 - 80 for Brady

We watch a film about four octogenarian women going to the Super Bowl, because apparently that's a full concept for a movie these days? Like, just... older people seeing football? That's a movie? Anyway, it's called 80 for Brady and we watched it. One of us even liked it, so if you enjoy listening to the other two being dumbfounded, this is the episode for you.

Sheila McCarthy on 'The Sterile Cuckoo'

Sheila McCarthy on 'The Sterile Cuckoo'

There are a lot of fantastic women in Women Talking, but when Jordan first saw the film in theaters, she was immediately  struck by the powerful performances of the movie's matriarchs, one of whom is played to hilarious, heartbreaking perfection by today's guest, Sheila McCarthy. Sheila tells us about identifying with Liza Minnelli's Pookie Adams in The Sterile Cuckoo — a feeling that she had when she saw the film in theaters as a teenager. Little could she have known that she'd go on to befriend and work with Liza, and so many great stars.

Then there's One Quick Thing about newly minted EGOT winner Viola Davis.

    80 for Brady

    80 for Brady

Special guest Cory Woodroof joins the show for a bonus review of 80 for Brady, a new senior comedy produced by Tom Brady that is all about...Tom Brady! Taking a step back in time to the 2017 Super Bowl, when Brady was still with the New England Patriots, 80 for Brady is more than just a vanity project. It's a vanity project from Paramount Pictures! The film stars Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field, along with Billy Porter, Rob Corddry, Alex Moffat, and (you guessed it) Guy Fieri.

Meredith Salenger on ‘Smokey and the Bandit’

It all started in 1979…Meredith Salenger felt seen by the sweet-but-feisty Carrie (aka “Frog”) in SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT. And Field’s starring role in NORMA RAE called to her long before she got involved in political fundraising and activism. An actor with a decades-long career, and now the co-host of the podcast ’Did You Get My Text?’ with husband Patton Oswald, she shares how she’s still inspired by these roles of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.

Then,  one quick thing about the 1987 Frankie & Annette film BACK TO THE BEACH. Yes, really.
