    January 2nd is celebrated as National Science Fiction Day in the United States. The day is observed to honor and commemorate the birthday of Isaac Asimov, one of the most celebrated and influential science fiction writers of all time.

    Isaac Asimov was born on January 2, 1920, in Russia, and he moved to the United States with his family when he was three years old. Asimov went on to become one of the most prolific writers in the science fiction genre, with over 500 books to his credit, including the famous "Foundation" and "Robot" series.

    National Science Fiction Day celebrates the imagination and creativity that are central to the science fiction genre. It is a day for fans of science fiction to come together and celebrate the many worlds and characters that have been brought to life in books, movies, and television shows.

    To celebrate National Science Fiction Day, many people read their favorite science fiction books, watch science fiction movies or TV shows, attend science fiction conventions or events, or simply reflect on the impact that science fiction has had on their lives and on society as a whole.

    Overall, National Science Fiction Day is a fun and exciting holiday that celebrates the power of imagination and the endless possibilities of the future.

    This week we are rewatching “The Island” a movie directed by Michael Bay released in 2005, starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson.

    This is a dystopian film set in the near future about a man named Lincoln Six Echo who survived a world contamination with few others who are all waiting to be chosen to go the Island. Lincoln wakes every morning from nightmares of drowning to put on the same white clothes, white shoes, and walk down the same white hallways. His life is the same every week, go to work, eat the food given to you, and hope you are chosen by the surprise lottery to finally go to “The Island.”

    All is meh until one day his best friend, Jordan Two Delta wins the lottery to go to the island.
