Gary continues his response to Answers in Genesis' Ken Ham. Ham uses 2 Peter 3 to show that we are in the "last days." This has been done time and time again, and every time it has been shown to be wrong. Peter was speaking about events of his own day in the first century, not about the state of the culture or the church in our day.

2 Peter - Where Is His Coming? - Audio

A title for this message would be either "Where Is His Coming?" or "Benefits of Wholesome Thinking" as Peter deals with both of these very important issues. He strongly encourages the readers of his day, and also of this day, to stimulate oneself to wholesome thinking. Wholesome thinking will keep us on the right path of Godliness as we're looking and waiting for the soon return of Jesus to catch His bride away. But there were those then and there are those today, within the church that are asking the question - Where is this coming? We've been hearing about this forever and nothing has changed... Peter gives us the way to answer this by going directly to the Word of God as the source for this and all answers. Don't get caught up in foolish opinions and arguments, let God's Word defend itself because it is very qualified to do so. Listen and study along with us as we fill our minds with wholesome thoughts. Ep 797 - Isaiah 28:14-19

You don’t have to know a lot about construction to understand the necessity of having a firm foundation. It’s the primary source of stability for whatever is being built, whether it be a single-story house or a high-rise office building. A solid foundation is what provides a stable and reliable footing on which the entire structure stands. And a good foundation begins with a well-laid cornerstone. It is around this single stone that the rest of the foundation is oriented. It serves as the primary point of reference for the rest of the structure, so if the cornerstone is off, the rest of the building will be as well. In Isaiah 28:14-19, God has some strong words to say to the leaders of Judah, referring to them as scoffers, arrogant, pride-filled individuals who were guilty of building the nation of Judah on the wrong foundation. Through the misguided leadership of these men, Judah had started relying on other nations as sources of support and stability. But God was letting them know that their world was about to be rocked. Their little kingdom, built on lies and deception was going to prove unstable and unsustainable. When the storms of God’s judgment came, their walls would fall because their foundation was faulty.

Mockers and Scoffers

Have you ever been made fun of, ridiculed and mocked for believing in Jesus? This isn’t something strange, it happens to everyone who is a true believer in Christ. A mocker is someone that tries to discredit a statement by making fun of it. This reminds me of a time when the Lord sent me to give a word in a church. After the service ended, one of the women from the congregation invited us to join her for dinner at her home. When we arrived I sat in the dining room waiting for the dinner to be prepared. I heard the associate pastor and his wife talking to a gentleman about receiving Christ as his personal Savior. As they were introducing the Plan of Salvation to him, he laughed and mocked at what they were saying. Thankfully this man later did receive Christ, but this reminds me about those that still haven’t. This is a serious matter folks and it is sad to say, but some of these people are in our own family. Every time I think about the story of Noah, I start to imagine as Noah was building the ark, what the people were saying about him. Look at this crazy man building an ark on dry land. Then I start to wonder about the final moment of their lives, as the ark’s doors were shut and the waters started to rise. Who are the mockers? They are the people that are lost and unable to see the dangers of the coming storm. 2 Chronicles 36:16 But they continually mocked the messengers of God, despised His words and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, until there was no remedy.

"In the last days, scoffers will come..." 2 Pet 3:3

Peter's first letter was a warning to faithful Christians that persecution was coming. In the first two chapters of his second letter, he warned about deceivers and false teachers. But there is one more thing he must warn them about: scoffers that will come in the last days. He's warning us as well.
