The 5th sermon in the series, 2 Peter: Sharing in God's Life Peter exposes the false teachers of the Early Church as no different than the false prophets of the Old Testament: those who bring condemnation and destruction on themselves. And so he warns us to look out for clever and charming speakers who deceive, specifically by how they divide the church, deny the Christ, and are depraved in their ways.

This is our 5th message in our study on this short yet powerful book. Peter is beginning in the 2nd chapter to uncover the false teachers and false prophets that were infiltrating the early church. We all know that anything false hates truth and it certainly doesn't want to be uncovered. The first thing that has to be done when dealing with any kind of issue is to first recognize that the issue exists. So this week we are defining what a false teacher and false prophet are and establishing how dangerous they are to a person and to the Church. Peter is writing to true believers about the false teachers, so this is going to be very direct and head-on. If you're a true believer, don't be offended with the confrontational approach that Peter must take. Remember, in Satan's world of attacking God and His children, there are no rules. Today, as we continue to look at the types of false teachers the Bible warns us about, we look at the Tickler and the Speculator.

Satan's scheme is to use false teachers. He loves unmotivated believers and the distracted and confused, because they lack discernment. A charlatan is a person who uses Christianity as a means of personal gain. A prophet is a person who claims to be gifted with a personal message from God.
