    168. Do you really need closure?

    168. Do you really need closure?

The end of a relationship or a friendship can leave us with a lot of unanswered questions, especially when the split is sudden, out of the blue, and the other person is unresponsive. In other instances, we don't quite know what went wrong and are looking for answers. In today's episode we talk about the elusive myth that is closure: whether we need it, how to get it, and why we should not rely on others to provide us with permission to move on. We also discuss the closure cycle and the reasons we may THINK we are looking for closure, but are really looking for an excuse to reconnect. All of that and more, listen now!

    162. Why do I feel guilty all the time?

    162. Why do I feel guilty all the time?

We experience chronic guilt towards a lot of things: guilt for resting, guilt for not resting, guilt for prioritising ourselves, guilt for being a bad friend, a bad partner, a bad student, for not deserving your opportunities. In today's episode we break down the guilt complex by exploring:

    • The childhood guilt wound
    • People pleasing
    • The fawn response
    • Perfectionism
    • Negative self esteem

We also discuss how we can overcome our chronic guilt by deciding to live for ourselves and putting energy into our wellbeing first, alongside the paradox of the guilt we feel towards ourselves vs the guilt we inflict on others. Listen now!

4 Pivotal Decisions in Life We Make Daily & 3 Ways to Approach Conflict Resolution in Relationships

4 Pivotal Decisions in Life We Make Daily & 3 Ways to Approach Conflict Resolution in Relationships

How can we navigate the challenges of communication in relationships, especially when faced with difficult conversations?

How can personal growth and self-development impact our relationships, and what challenges might arise from this?

Communication is the lifeblood of any relationship, yet navigating tough conversations can be daunting. And society loves painting relationships with broad strokes, but the canvas of human connection is far more intricate.

Today, I am excited to share the conversation I had with Krista Williams of the Almost 30 podcast. We focused on why nobody teaches us about love and how to give and fully receive it.

Life has a knack for teaching us lessons that craft intimacy but let's not be swayed by the virtual façade. Instead, let's tear down the walls and unearth the truth behind meaningful connections that transcend screens.

Understanding oneself is the gateway to banishing the echoes of loneliness and by exploring love's multi-dimensional essence, we will learn the three focal points that breed growth, trust, and intimacy.  We'll uncover the roles we play in relationships and shatter society's molds to find our truth as well as unlock the art of communicating through discomfort.

    In this interview, you'll learn:

    • The key decisions we make in life
    • How to unlock your truth
    • The real definition of love
    • The different roles we play in any relationship
    • How to deal with relationship struggles
    • How to set the right intentions

Your journey to self-discovery and enriched connections starts here.

    With Love and Gratitude,

    Jay Shetty

    What We Discuss:

    • 00:00 Intro
    • 02:40 Here are the four important decisions you will keep making in your life
    • 07:13 How do you get your relationship right? Maybe, allow life to humble you
    • 10:11 The truth is social media doesn’t have much impact on genuine relationships
    • 13:38 If you don't feel you understand yourself, you will feel alone
    • 19:04 Love doesn’t have one definition, it has three key areas you can focus on
    • 25:27 Spark alone doesn’t make a relationship work
    • 29:40 Should people marry their bestfriend? Is it a healthy relationship choice?
    • 32:00 Everyone grows at a different time and at a different phase
    • 37:48 What are the three different roles we play in our relationships?
    • 41:09
    • 46:34 The projection society has for men and women might not be our truth
    • 54:07 Not everyone is going to learn from the resource materials you have learned from
    • 01:19:40 Are women going through personal growth, self-development, and work fatigue?
    • 01:01:00 This is why making other people your purpose doesn’t work
    • 01:04:31 We want to talk about how people behave and or how they act, but we don't want to talk about our intentions
    • 01:09:02 People often struggle in a relationship because they don’t know how to talk about hard things
    • 01:13:11 Books are not meant to be read, it’s meant to help guide you in difficult and challenging times

    113. Forgiving yourself for past mistakes

    113. Forgiving yourself for past mistakes

All of us are going to mess up. In our 20s and every decade thereafter. But its what we choose to do with those mistakes that's important. In this episode we explore why we often regret past decisions and actions, looking at the development of our brain and personality, we also explore the distinction between regret and guilt and why both emotions may actually be protecting us from future pain. Part of this is understanding the difference between our actual and ideal self and the psychology behind why we choose to punish ourselves for past mistakes rather than embrace them and move on. Self forgiveness is the most powerful antidote and we'll dive into exactly how to enact this practice and release those painful memories and mistakes from our past through accountability and shared humanity. 829 Mike Tyson: The Mind and Journey of a Champion Fighter

TREAT OTHERS HOW YOU WANT TO BE TREATED. Kindness seems like a basic idea, but when you’re a champion it’s not high on your list. The Golden Rule isn’t always easy. Especially when you’re focused on yourself. But you can be the best and be good to others. It takes discipline. It takes mentorship. And it takes a commitment to what’s important in life. No matter what you’ve done in your past, you can always reinvent yourself. On today’s episode of The School of Greatness, I dive deep into never giving up from a champion who went through dark times: Mike Tyson. Tyson is a former undisputed heavyweight champion of the World and won his first 19 professional bouts by knockout, 12 of them in the first round. He holds the record as the youngest boxer to win the WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles at 20 years, four months, and 22 days old. Mike Tyson is learning to forgive himself and be grateful. He also shares his feelings about discipline and how visualization helped him believe he could be a champion. So get ready to learn how to be a champion and why it’s never too late for a comeback on Episode 829.
    Some Questions I Ask:
Did you know who you were at 25? (6:00)
What was your biggest fear in your early 20s? (10:00)
If your 25 year-old self was sitting here, what would you tell him? (14:00)
What are you most proud of? (36:30)

61 What Sharing My Childhood Rape Taught Me About Being a Loving, Vulnerable, Free Man with Jonathan Fields

61 What Sharing My Childhood Rape Taught Me About Being a Loving, Vulnerable, Free Man with Jonathan Fields

I was 5 years old when he raped me.
The only other memories I had before that vivid experience was my first day at Kindergarden where I colored in an outline of Clifford The Big Red Dog, and taking brownies to pre school for classmates on my birthday.
Facing it was one of the most uncomfortable and emotionally challenging moments I've ever had... but it changed my life forever.
In this episode I dive into what happened, the weight I carried for so long and the lessons I learned along the way.
I want to thank my dear friend Jonathan Fields for guiding me during this interview and creating a space for me to share so openly.
