    Self Righteous Pharisee

    Self Righteous Pharisee

Today we are hearing from Jesus in the Gospel of Luke 18:9-14. There is a Pharisee and there is a tax collector and they are praying. Jesus gives us a glimpse of two different perspectives and only one of them will walk away justified. You guess which one?

The music on the podcast is from John Nugent. John is a Chicagoland area musician who has been a real blessing to Tabor Church.

Table of Shewbread | Mike Baker

Table of Shewbread | Mike Baker
5-02-21 | Mike Baker Table of Shewbread| Vintage Blueprint Exodus 25:23-30 As we enter into the front room of the tabernacle proper (the Holy Place), we come to the table of shewbread on the right side just inside the entrance. On this table the priests were to place 12 fresh loaves of bread daily as a representation of the people of God (12 tribes). There are many allusions here to Jesus. He is the bread of life that sustains us. He desires to be intimately involved with us, as in sharing a meal together. We celebrate the Lord’s supper to remember his sacrifice. Obvious parallels to our weekly communion abound.

    The Rock that Saves

    The Rock that Saves

With the Israelites still ungrateful and grumbling, Moses has a very public meltdown.  His self-righteousness has caused him to become impatient with God's patient redemptive plan.  And we see that Moses is neither the hero of this story, nor the rescuer that God's people ultimately need.  God is the hero and he sends Jesus as our ultimate rescuer who gives us living water that finally quenches our thirst.

    Parables 09 - Lost Son - 2021 0321

    Parables 09 - Lost Son - 2021 0321

Luke 15:11-32 - Lost Son - Jesus concludes the stories of lost things by talking about a Father's love for his children.  In this story, we are challenged to think about the things that anger us.  Jesus reminds us that the Father welcomes everyone who comes to Him in repentance and without demands.  May each of us reflect God's love, grace, and kindness in all we do.  May we all rid ourselves of any self-righteousness that allows us to think we are better than anyone else and that everyone is deserving of God's love.

A Tale of Two Sinners - Audio

A Tale of Two Sinners - Audio
Our era of history is filled with people, both religious and irreligious, who are holier than thou. They are puffed up with pride and are self-righteous. This was also the case in Jesus' day as well. Therefore, He told this parable of two sinners who went to pray. Listen in and see which person you more closely resemble.
