“It’s like a big warm hug.”

Okay, how do you argue with a sentiment like that? You don’t—which is why Tien Nguyen has seen such incredible eCommerce success with her soft, customized and beautiful hand knitted blankets.

My friend, as you’ll learn on today’s podcast, Tien didn’t always have that level of success. In fact, when she first joined the 0-100K System—one of the courses I teach—she only had $300 in her bank account.

THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS. Can you imagine?

But she took a leap of faith and started her amazing journey—and it’s a journey that I think will fascinate you. Here’s why: because as she shares it with you on the podcast, she identifies the very specific steps she’s taken (and still takes) to keep her business growing.

So get ready to learn about hugs, reels, TikTok videos…and how many amazing hand knit blankets Tien has shipped out. (Warning: your jaw is probably gonna drop a bit.)

Find Your Secret Influencers - David Perry - CEO, Co-Founder, and Developer at Carro

We are excited to shine a spotlight on another amazing Speaker/Presenter from the Social Media Influencer Summit! Today we’re talking with David Perry who is an expert developer in the gaming industry. David has created multiple successful companies and games, including Aladdin, The Matrix, The Terminator and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. David is wildly successful, with his last two companies being acquired by Sony PlayStation and Atari. He’s won a Development Legend Award. He's spoken all over the world at conferences and universities, even on the cherished TED stage!

We’re excited to have him on the podcast to talk all things eCommerce and get his unique perspective on the industry.

David is going to talk about his career, how to be innovative in today’s eCommerce space, the intersection of modern influencer marketing and eCommerce! I’m only covering some of the key takeaways and highlights here in the email. Be sure to go and listen to the full podcast with David over at www.winningwithshopify.com/summit. You can sign up today for free and you’ll get three days full access where you can listen to David’s full interview!

    Questions I covered:

    • How did David get his start in the gaming industry and what led him to the influencer space?
    • How does gaming intersect with the influencer space?
    • What makes good influencer content? What do influencers care about?
    • How do you find the right influencer? Why is this so important?
    • How does David influencer technology company (Carro) work?
    • What are some examples of brands that are great case studies to look towards for inspiration?

    Topics:

    • Influencers bring a human aspect to business strategy and marketing. They are able to tell a brand what they would and wouldn’t do as a consumer, what their audience might like or dislike and what motivates them. Once a brand takes the time to fully understand the type of person they are working with, it is easier to benefit from their influence.
    • A social influencer is more than happy to promote a product that they love. Most influencers want to promote something they believe in, because it makes the promotion authentic and provides a better experience for their social fans and followers. Some influencers will even promote a brand they love for free! As opposed to getting paid to promote a brand they aren’t personally invested in.
    • Uncover how influencers interact with and view brands that need influencer promotion. David is developing an Influencer technology platform to help brands and influencers connect and find products. There are plenty of features that will be added in the upcoming months. This is something to keep an eye out for on the horizon.

Can't wait to see you all in 2020!

    Questions I covered:

    • What has changed over the last 12 months for influencer marketing?
    • Where is the influencer marketing industry headed in 2020 and beyond?
    • What general back-end analytics are available on platforms like Instagram?
    • What analytics and reporting are available with Scrunch?
    • What is the hybrid model for influencer marketing and how does it work?
    • How much should you spend on your influencer marketing?

    Topics:

    • When influencers and brands post on social media, they are missing a key part of their audience due to the ever-changing algorithm. To make the experience authentic but also reach the right audience you must extend and amplify your media.
    • The popularity of different social media platforms changes all the time. This means that you must be utilizing multi-channel tactics. It is really about understanding that influencer marketing is not just about a sponsored post. It really is about reaching your audience in the right places - Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, Pinterest, etc.
    • Influencer Marketing is all about negotiation! There is no right or wrong way to go about negotiating. It really is about getting to know someone and what works for them might not be the strategy or price that works for another.

Both Sides of the Story - Shopify merchant and Influencer - Alexandra Jimenez

Another episode of highlights from the Social Media Influencer Summit makes this episode of Winning With Shopify jam-packed full of knowledge from our friend of the show, Alexandra Jimenez. She joins us again this year to talk about both sides of the story, being a social media influencer and owning a Shopify store as a merchant.

Alexandra Jimenez is the editor-in-chief of Travel Fashion Girl, where she teaches an audience of 900,000+ monthly readers to pack in a light, stylish, and efficient way. After quitting her corporate job in 2008, she spent almost a decade on the road all while traveling carry-on only.

She now has a new travel brand called Compass Rose Travel Accessories that is quickly making its way up the best-selling list on Amazon.

So Alex is going to give you lots of great advice in this session. These are just the highlights of the interview. Please go and listen to the full thing over at www.winningwithshopify.com/summit. It's 100% free to sign up. You get access for three days and you get to listen to Alex's full interview and her interview from last year, which is still completely relevant.

There are 30 other interviews you can listen to as well. So it is crammed full of great information. If you're still wondering whether to get into influencer marketing or if you've tried it and you haven't succeeded yet, then I’ve created this summit for you. This summit has been put together for anyone who wants to understand influencer marketing. Check it out for free today!

     Questions I covered:

    • Asking Alex about her journey in detail and how she started out as an influencer.
    • Does she promote anything unless she truly believes in it?
    • What is Alex doing now? Coming into 2020, what is she doing now when it comes to influencer marketing and how she presents herself?
    • How she makes money with particular strategies.
    • Asking her what she does when she receives products that I she does and doesn’t love, and whether or not she stays away from unrelated products altogether.
    • Does she do any traditional advertising?

    Topics:

    • Building a relationship when working with influencers is important. This can happen smoothly when you find an influencer in your niche. Relationship building comes easily when you have a common ground.
    • A social influencer can best build loyalty from fans that appreciate your content. As an influencer, it is important you find common ground that meets the needs of your audience. This will make your audience more drawn to you.

     Quotes:

    • “We talk about how much money we get paid for things. And I was really surprised to find out how many people, Instagramers, and bloggers don't charge for a lot of stuff…So go to your biggest unicorn of a person and reach out and say, “Hey, what are your ad rates?”. So that you know the top of the line… and then you can work back from there based on somebody's audience who's your second and third choice [to] you know your 34th and whatnot.’
    • “Majority of my traffic is coming from Google or it's coming from Pinterest. With regards to the influencers that I would then want to choose to work with, I actually wouldn't, I really haven't worked prioritize Instagram because personally as an influencer, I don't see any ROI when I promote products on my, on my Instagram, so I can see what's selling and what's not selling.”
