Ever wanted to know the cultural significance of a prominent forehead adds to cinematic charm? Well, it's time for another episode of our podcast where we take a fascinating journey into some unexpected discussions. We kick things off with some lively banter, including a fan comment that Jordan looks bald, and an amusing comparison to the infamous Ron Jeremy. But it's not all laughs, as we give a nod to the power of hair and how it can shape perceptions.
Are you a fan of Hellboy 2? We dig deep into the mythical elements, stunning special effects, and the thrilling fight sequences that make this movie a cult classic. We explore the amazing creations of del Toro's artwork, and the 40-pound mechanical wings of Angel of Death. Plus, we discuss the cast, including Selma Blair and Doug Jones, and Ron Perlman's role in Beauty and the Beast.
Finally, we switch gears to discuss Marvel's Adam Warlock character and compare Stephen King's mini-series tones to a new horror show called From. We tackle the unique monster design, and the show's level of brutality. And because we love a bit of nostalgia, we end our episode by comparing the original and the remake of Clash of the Titans. It's an episode packed with insightful discussions, humor, and a generous dose of pop culture. Trust us, you don't want to miss this.

Tre'vell Anderson on 'Legally Blonde'
Elle Woods is an iconic character, but not an obvious one from Tre'vell Anderson, author of the new book, We See Each Other: A Black. Trans Journey Through TV and Film. Leave it to the effervescent Tre'vell to bring their signature FANTI gray-area mindset to their Feeling Seen character choice! In this episode, Tre'vell and Jordan look at what it is about Elle Woods that offered Tre'vell a glimpse of what they could be...and consider if future generations of Black, trans folks might be able to feel seen without much mental gymnastics.
Then, Jordan has one quick thing about the WGA strike.

DWTS Week 1 Reaction w/ Artem
Nikki & Brie are in rhythm with what they have to say about the season premiere of Dancing With the Stars, and they check in with a special guest that knows a thing or two about winning the Mirror Ball trophy. It was a family affair for the Bellas; Nikki was watching with Matteo, while Brie was watching with Birdie, who had some amazing insights.
Nikki's *husband*, Artem Chigvintsev, joins The Bellas to talk about his first dance with Heidi D'Amelio, her surprising revelation that she almost quit the show before the first episode, their post-dance reaction, and how this new season on Disney+ feels different than previous seasons. He also gives some insight into his unique approach to the next dance, why he hasn't started choreographing, and we learn why Nikki is really excited about Elvis Week on DWTS.
While they have him on the show, The Bellas get Artem to join them for an all-new edition of The Elimination Game…but it seems that one of the Bellas didn't read the guidelines for the game (shocker), so maybe we're witnessing some unresolved issues from The Bellas episode of Celebrity Beef on E!. It's safe to say that The Bellas are at their best when they're breaking the rules, though.
The episode closes out with Artem's contribution to Inspiration & Affirmation with something that he learned from Matthew McConaughey and uses every day.

Whiplash.
Shanea received a gift to help her with a very troublesome issue. The girls go off on a tangent that ends with conversation about actors, actors-turned-politicians, a memoir, carpeted floors, and a heap of other things. They both discuss one of the ways they spend quality time with their other halves. There’s a lot of lightheartedness to unpack in this episode so jump on in!

Legally Blonde (2001)
Just over twenty years ago, Elle Woods taught us that not only do blondes have more fun...
but that they can also make GREAT defense attorneys…..even just one year into law school.
Elle is played by Reese Witherspoon of course in a star-making performance that not only spawned a franchise but also inspired many a high school production. Directed by Robert Luketic, this also starred Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, Ali Larter, and the invaluable Jennifer Coolidge.
Let’s revisit this surprise hit comedy and see how that “Bend and Snap” routine really holds up!

Mally's Pick - The Sweetest Thing (2002)
To kick off season 2 of Movie Lovers, Mally takes Jonah on a raunchy rom-com ride to watch The Sweetest Thing from 2002. Complete with glory holes and absolutely terrible songs about penises, the quality of this movie isn't something the two of them agree on, but they do agree on their undying love for Christina Applegate. Directed by Roger Kumble. Starring Cameron Diaz, Thomas Jane, Christina Applegate, Selma Blair and Jason Bateman.

Remake Review: The Fog (2005)
This week, we're headed back to good old Antonio Bay... But, this time around, it's not quite the same place that John Carpenter introduced us to in his classic 1980 chiller. No, against our better judgment (seriously, this thing has a 4% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes!), we've decided to take a look at director Rupert Wainwright's 2005 remake of The Fog to see if there's anything in it that's worth seeing for die-hard Carpenter fans like ourselves. You'll have to listen to find out, but, as with the movie itself, you're not likely to be shocked. Still, Chris and Nick put their usual level of over-thought into this largely forgotten PG-13 affair, and if nothing else, it's a chance to discuss remakes and reboots of beloved genre films -- some of which really did do some interesting things to justify their existence. We also ponder the question of what the most truly original John Carpenter film might be, celebrate the return of moviegoing in the post-COVID world, and discuss the recent Guardian piece about why Ghosts of Mars might not be so bad, after all.
135: Revisiting Hellboy II
Episode 211: Oh oh oh "The Sweetest Thing"
Filthy comedies featuring mostly female casts don't seem to get a fair shake, but "The Sweetest Thing" (featuring Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate, & Selma Blair) has so many solid jokes that people should be paying attention. Sure the movie has some weird pacing issues, but you'll get over it because it's so damn funny. We pair it with a bottle of Ladies Night Cabernet Sauvignon.
Movie Sync Notes: We watch the movie on Amazon Prime. Note that we watch regular version, not the unrated extended version. We start "The Sweetest Thing" 6:20 into the pod, and push play on part two 59:20 into the pod.
Ep 40 - Mom and Dad
This week, Tim and Andy hug their kids while talking about the Nicholas Cage family horror Mom and Dad from 2017. T&A talk about babies, meat tenderizers, and following your dreams. How gnarly does this movie feel? And isn't it so good? Find us wherever you get your podcasts.
