Episode 116: Wheelan Motors "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" written by Brooks Wheelan (I Think You Should Leave, SNL) & Isaac Rentz (Opening Night)

It’s Max Fun Drive! The one time of year where we ask you to become members or upgrade your membership to help make our show possible. For this year’s Max Fun Drive we’re bringing you something super special. A full on Dead Pilots Society Series. Well, the first three episodes of one at least.

Today we’re releasing the third and final episode of Wheelan Motors written and created by Brooks Wheelan (I Think You Should Leave, SNL) & Isaac Rentz (Opening Night). The title of this one is “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” and it’s about Brook’s brother Michael who after missing a Bret Michaels concert because his family forgot him in a trunk, quits Wheelan Motors and is poached by a rival dealership. His absence throws the family's delicate ecosystem off and the Wheelans crumble. It’s the series finale of our little dead pilots society series and it’s the funniest for sure!

The cast for this one was next level! Wheelan Motors stars Brooks Wheelan, Jessica Lowe as Jenny Valvino, Paul Scheer as Todd, Will Sasso as Jim Wheelan, Kerri Kenney Silver as Chris Wheelan, Bobby Moynihan as Michael, Mike O’Brien as Freddie Admunson, Gary Anthony Williams as Doug T, Ryan Asher as Layton, Nick Rutherford as Ries, Joe Mande as Lincoln, Katrina Davis as Stacy T, and Joey Lyons with stage directions.

This year our bonus content includes our library of video from our table reads. You can get them for as little as $5 by going to https://maximumfun.org/join

Tune in Monday for episode three of Wheelan Motors written by Brooks Wheelan & Isaac Rents. Thanks for supporting our show! Enjoy!

    That 90s Show

    That 90s Show

Hello Wisonsin!!! We were skeptical when Netflix announced they were bringing back (most) of the original cast from That 70s Show for That 90s Show, but it turns out it's not all bad — just don't talk about That 80s Show. Returning guest Katie Brioux joins us to discuss what works and doesn't work about the much anticipated reboot, how people weren't nice in the 90s, and we take a Buzzfeed quiz to determine what kind of 90s kid we were. (Also the thumbnail is of Aidan as a kid wearing a Kurt Kobain shirt while cutting his first communion cake — can't get more 90s than that!)

    S06E10: In Good Company
Or, How To Not Exactly Succeed In Corporate Satire While Actually REALLY Trying. We might have felt differently about In Good Company if we didn't live in the Republic of Bezos, in a timeline with Succession, but we do, we do, and a movie that tries to send up corporate machinations really needs to have an R rating to work with. Still, this gentle, dated, clueless-about-BFAs-and-NYU "Hallmark movie for boys" isn't unpleasant, and DQ is quite good in it despite being obliged to dribble a basketball AND deliver a Notwork speech during the big boss's TED talk. Past its sell-by date, but still safe: it's an all-new Quaid In Full. S06E02: Traffic

    S06E02: Traffic
Zack Handlen joins us for 2000's Soderbergh Oscar magnet Traffic, which at least one of your co-hosts forgot Dennis Quaid was even in, much less that he played a sleazy Mob-fixer lawyer whose wardrobe erodes really weirdly over the 2.5-hour runtime. Is Quaid miscast? Is this the last time we'll contend with Topher Grace on this podcast? Which plotline is the weakest here, and does Traffic suffer from breaking ground we've seen covered a thousand times since thanks TO Traffic? All these questions, plus '50s-pulp scaremongering, 17-year-old dickheads who read too much, who "invented" Mexico As Yellow, and making our peace with the word "propulsive." BlacKkKlansman

    BlacKkKlansman

This week, Bryan and Shane review the first Spike Lee Joint in the history of The Plotaholics with 2018's BlacKkKlansman, starring That Guy from Tenant, Kylo Ren, Eric Foreman, The Other Buscemi,  RoboCop 3, and New Mike's Girl from Rescue Me.

This biopic sees black undercover police officer, Ron Stallworth (portrayed by John David Washington) as the voice behind an undercover operation into the KKK.

This film CRIMINALLY did not win Best Picture in 2019. The issues of the 70s plague us today. The discussion here gets deep. Very deep. So sit back, relax, and get ready for some real discussion as The Plotaholics discuss BlacKkKlansman.
