Children can be very adaptive to parent separation when it's done well. We all know the obvious don'ts like 'Don't speak negatively about the other parent...', but there are some other curve ball issues that we need to master to make sure our child's childhood is not highjacked or damaged by parent separations. Unfortunately, these are not spoken about, and they can easily be missed. 

I feel passionate about parents getting this right... separating so that your child thrives. I'm delighted that Kristen and I could dive into this topic and pull it apart. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Deciding to split can be an incredibly challenging time for any married couple, but knowing the impact it can have on our kids can make it even harder to navigate the complex untangling of a life together. 

We were asked by one listener to talk about it, because she has a family member who's planning to divorce once their teen has finished their main exams, but keeping it quiet in the meantime. It's a tricky question; do we stay together for the kids, when do we tell them, and how? 

In this episode we talk about a news article that claims teenagers are the ultimate marriage wrecker, the impact on teens who live with parents in an unhappy marriage, and whether they are better or worse off than those in a single parent family. 

We talk about the best way to tell your teen you are splitting, an innovative way of dealing with it called nesting, which allows the kids to stay at home whilst the parents move in and out, and the new apps that can ease the burden of communication.

Whatever path you choose, one of the best bits of advice I always give divorcing couples, is to try and choose a legal service that's trained in reconciliation to reduce the fighting, and cost, of going through such a difficult process.

Who you surround yourself with is an indication of your inner self.  Who you love is who you want to be around.  For a person to claim they are a Christian and yet still be tied to the world, not separate from it is a contradiction.  We will look at Scripture which shows love for the world makes you an enemy of GOD.  Correspondingly, separation unto CHRIST JESUS will make you an outcast of the world.  You must decide where you will stand.

14      Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?
15      Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?
16      Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said,
         “I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM;
         AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.
17      “Therefore, COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE,” says the Lord.
         “AND DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN;
         And I will welcome you.
18      “And I will be a father to you,
         And you shall be sons and daughters to Me,”
         Says the Lord Almighty.

Relationships take work! We are often learning how to be in them, love in them, and live within them. God never intended for us to do this on our own.
