Questi giorni sono stati anche un interessante laboratorio per vedere come reagisce in modo diverso la gente davanti a me che non posso parlare.
Allora, una delle reazioni più strane è di quelli che entrano in super-empatia e cominciano anche loro a parlare a gesti o sottovoce, e in questa categoria rientra sicuramente mia madre. Con lei in questi giorni abbiamo dovuto sostituire le telefonate vocali con collegamenti skype, e vabbé che io non posso parlare, ma anche lei spesso si lascia prendere dalla super-empatia e sussurra o parla a gesti. E io rido.
A casa vado in giro da giorni con lâiPad che uso come una lavagnetta, e anche se a casa tutti mi vogliono bene e sono preoccupati per me, io li vedo che di nascosto sollevano gli occhi al cielo ogni volta che si sentono toccare la spalla e spunto io da dietro con la mia lavagnetta con richieste e curiosità e con tutte le frasi che normalmente direi per fare â appunto - le chiacchiere ma che la lavagnetta rende molto più complicato.
E poi ci sono le situazioni in cui non ho con me la lavagnetta e allora la mia piccola family fa a gara a capire male quello che io cerco di spiegare a gesti, lo fa apposta perché si diverte a vedermi mimare cose che non si possono descrivere a gesti.
Però ci sono anche momenti imbarazzanti dove il non poter parlare mi mette in difficolta, come quando incrocio i vicini per le scale e saluto con un sorriso e un cenno muto, come quando qualcuno fa il gesto di cortesia e mi tiene una porta per farmi entrare, o quando pago al supermercato, tutte situazioni nelle quali non sempre il mio interlocutore mi guarda in faccia e quindi non può vedere che sto sorridendo e ringraziando con lo sguardo o mimando âgrazieâ senza parlare, e mi sento molto maleducata.
Però devo vincere il desiderio di voler parlare perché so che ogni volta che parlo sto rallentando la mia guarigione, e che se faccio unâeccezione per qualcuno poi finisco per farla per tutto e rimango unâaltra settimana senza voce.
Però mi consolo, prima di tutto perché facendo un poâ di ricerche ho trovato degli
articoli che spiegano che stare in silenzio fa bene alla salute: allora, ho trovato che fa abbassare la pressione, aiuta la concentrazione, aiuta contro lâinsonnia e fa addirittura abbassare i livelli di cortisolo, che è lâormone dello stress.
Unâaltra cosa carina che è venuta fuori è che un sacco di amici mi hanno mandato consigli e auguri per una pronta guarigione, e molti mi hanno segnalato quel

And then there are the situations in which I don't have the slate with me and then my little family competes to misunderstand what I try to explain with gestures, they do it on purpose because they enjoy seeing me mime things that cannot be described by gestures.
But there are also embarrassing moments where not being able to talk puts me in difficulty, such as when I pass neighbors on the stairs and greet them with a smile and a silent nod, or such as when someone makes a courtesy gesture and holds a door for me to let me in, or when I pay at the supermarket, all situations in which my interlocutor does not always look me in the face and therefore cannot see that I am smiling and thanking with my eyes or mimicking "thank you" without speaking, and I feel very rude.
But I have to overcome the desire to want to talk because I know that every time I speak I'm slowing down my recovery, and that if I make an exception for someone then I end up doing it for everybody and I'm left without a voice for another week.
But I console myself, first of all because, doing a little research, I found
articles that explain that being silent is good for your health: well, I found that it lowers blood pressure, helps concentration, helps against insomnia and makes even lower cortisol levels, which is the stress hormone.
Another nice thing that came out is that a lot of friends have sent me advice and wishes for a speedy recovery, and many have pointed out to me that
program that allows you to generate sentences using the voices of famous people, and even there I have some fun.
