Your NFP's Impact: Enduring versus Sustainable

Your NFP's Impact: Enduring versus Sustainable

When I think about the NFPs we work with, I would like to see that their impact endures. That the changes they made, the lives they touched is remember and continues to have ripples long after the NFP ceases to exist. Being in a NFP is about playing to win, while sustainability is more about playing not to lose.  So, how do we make your NFP enduring?  In this video we discuss what you might like to think about, the next time your Board broaches sustainability.

Mary Lou Ryan, Co-Founder of bassike | Building A Successful, Iconic Australian Brand

In this episode, I’m chatting with Mary Lou Ryan who co-founded bassike with Deborah Sams in 2006 to create what they couldn’t find: high quality, design-led, sustainably sourced wardrobe essentials.

Lou & Deb chose to work with organic cotton, Australian makers and responsible business practices from the beginning.

The pair designed the first collections from a 1950s cottage on Sydney’s Palm Beach, and bassike has the ease and vitality of Australian beach life in its DNA.

Their debut collection was a considered edit of luxurious, organic cotton jersey t-shirts and pants that instantly connected with wearers in search of contemporary designs with the versatility to work within their existing wardrobes.

Mary Lou holds the title of Director of Sustainability & Supply Chain at bassike, with a commitment to accelerating and amplifying positive change at the brand, within the community and the broader fashion industry.

bassike is proudly B Corp and Climate Active Carbon Neutral certified.

Sustainable Sports Events: Eco-Friendly Equipment & Branding

Sustainable Sports Events: Eco-Friendly Equipment & Branding

In our second episode, we had the pleasure of hosting Neil Hamp-Adams, an experienced designer and marketer with over 27 years of expertise in the events industry. The topic of discussion was Eco-Friendly Equipment and Innovations in Sustainable Sports and Events, with a specific focus on branding.

Neil shared his knowledge and insights on the significance of sustainability in the events industry, particularly in branding.

He explained how reducing waste benefits the environment and helps clients' budgets.

Neil discussed his sustainability journey, including his launch of Driving Force, an event management company, and the acquisition of Clever Frame and Expandabrand franchises, which provide eco-friendly branding solutions.

Neil talked passionately about his shift towards more sustainable business practices, starting with waste reduction and expanding to energy usage and materials sourcing. Neil also gave an example of Expandabrand's commitment to sustainability by repurposing waste fabric used to manufacture flags, repurposing an estimated 14.2 tons of material, saving it from landfills and producing functional products together with Uzwelo Bags that benefit local communities.

He also explained how the Uzwelo project, in addition to providing functional products for local communities, has a percentage of its sales going to the Bateleurs, a South African Non-Profit Company (NPC) with over 200 volunteer pilots and aircraft. This organisation uses private aircraft for aerial surveillance to relocate animals around Africa and protect wildlife.

He stressed the importance of considering sustainability in every aspect of event planning, from design to execution.

Who Can You Say Yes To Today?

Who Can You Say Yes To Today?

After each of our shows wrap, we continue to think about what’s been shared, the advice, the unbelievable journeys and experiences of the CauseGirls we speak with each month. And even with all of their unique differences and backgrounds, there is a common theme that’s occurring. That all we need to do is look around us, and the opportunities to help someone or even create a movement, are right there in front of us. In this first solocast of the season, I reflect on this theme by sharing a remarkable story about a teacher who says yes to an unusual and unlikely request from a student. You will not believe what happens!

You Deserve to be Here with Deesha Dyer

Enjoy this conversation with CauseGirl Deesha Dyer, who shares her remarkable path to the White House without having a single connection, fancy degree or even linear path. Instead, she used her background in community organizing and hip-hop culture. From the working-class city of brotherly love, Deesha shows us how to lead with genuine heart and live by a just-do-it work ethic. From her last ride on Air Force One, you’ll hear the story of how she keeps the inner-critic at bay with her formula for success, which includes giving herself the grace to learn.

Here to teach us about going for it, this is Deesha’s story.

Sensitivity is a Superpower with Marion Chamberlain

Sensitivity is a Superpower with Marion Chamberlain

Welcome to episode 31 of the Today is the Day Changemakers Podcast. This week my guest is Marion Chamberlain, Founder & President of Chamberlain Leadership.

She inspires businesses to develop a mission centered mindset that their employees, customers, and investors can really rally behind.

When you bring her a business or program idea she intuitively is able to come up with solutions that will help you get your message across and out there in a unique way. Marion is truly a creative and a visionary and that is why she is so successful in working with entrepreneurs as they work to build their organizations from the ground up.

Marion spent time growing up between Germany and the United States and traveled back and forth at just 9 years old all by herself. That is what helped her to have an incredible independent spirit.

Marion eventually moved back to the United States to start her career and held different positions as she worked to move up the ladder.  Unfortunately, at one point Marion was in a terrible car accident and sustained substantial injuries. She was so career driven that she pushed herself too quickly to get back to work because her title was what truly tied her to her identity. That realization and what happened after that was a major turning point in Marion’s career. She realized that she was so focused on moving up the corporate ladder, that she was missing being more purposeful and purpose driven. Marion shares that we cannot only be so money focused and title driven. That there needs to be some other fuel that comes along with it.

During the interview we talk about how sensitivity is truly a superpower. It is often looked at as a weakness, but it is what helps us to tune in, connect and help others.

Listen in to hear Marion's message when asked, 'if I knew then what I know now'. There is so much more about Marion's journey and lessons we can all learn from packed in this episode. Visit Chamberlain Leadership to learn more.

Next week my guest is Steve Steiner, Producing Artistic Director, Surflight Theatre. He has so many great stories to share and lessons he has learned along the way.

    Have a great week everyone!

Using Gratitude In Search of The People's Champ with Matt Ladhoff

Using Gratitude In Search of The People's Champ with Matt Ladhoff

On today's show, we'll talk with Matt Ladhoff.  There is one word that comes to me when describing Matt and his story - and that word is...inspiring.  Matt is an eternal optimist.  A life enthusiast. A story teller and, in a nutshell, a game changer for the world around him.

In this episode,  Matt will share his journey from living a life within the corporate world to living a life  traveling around the world.  A journey that allowed him to create a ripple effect of goodness that is, quite literally, changing the world.  One of Matt's goals has always been to cultivate relationships and create meaningful connections across communities. In the pursuit of this goal, Matt stated a bit of a social experiment during those adventures around the world back in 2018.  On this trip,  Matt started handing out medals to individuals that he observed doing amazing things - random people that were performing random acts of kindness, spreading positivity, and living a life that lifts those around them.  And so began...The People's Champ Award.

At the core, Matt's impact on our world is rooted in his focus on gratitude, optimism ..and..his quest of  finding and recognizing  the next People's Champ.

So join us as he shares his inspiring and encouraging journey that is filled with intentionality, connection and purpose.

To learn more about Matt and the impact he's having on our world, check out @ThePeoplesChampAward on Instagram or his website at www.mattladhoff.com.
