G’sta—How the Hip Hop Musician Survived and Thrives, Collaborates in Life and Music with Corporate Savvy and a Brand Vision for His Future

G’sta peels back the layers of being a successful hip hop musician, producer and studio owner. A hip hop baby, Sean Self, known as G’sta, began writing and performing as a child in the 7th Ward of New Orleans, hitting his stride in the late 1990s.

This year, G'sta celebrates 20 years of owning his own studio, So Stimulus Entertainment. He recently released “Classic Status” to celebrate hip hop’s 50th anniversary. Along the way, he and his family escaped Hurricane Katrina, he hit rock bottom and faced deep depression over a failed music contract, and he reclaimed his self-esteem, rising to the top in Las Vegas, where he owns a home and lives with the love of his life.

G’sta talks openly about embracing his corporate self while fueling the creativity that has never left him, fusing the two with a new vision of licensing the personal brand he has created.

The Business of Spirituality with Jason Freeland

The Business of Spirituality with Jason Freeland

We live in an era where ancient wisdom is now an accessible commodity. People seeking answers are now considered to be consumers, and there's a menu of service providers helping them uncover intangible possibilities with the assistance of commercial technology. Spirituality has become a thriving industry - but is it accurate to call spirituality a business at all?

Giving fascinating insights for both service providers in the spiritual space and consumers who seek spiritual guidance, Megan and Ryan are joined by special guest Jason Freeland. Jason's company Outlook Amusements is the parent company of California Psychics, one of the most well known brands connecting everyday people with psychic advisors across a variety of modalities, from psychics and mediums to tarot readers, astrologers, numerologists and beyond.

This episode is a walk across the bridge connecting the ethereal and material worlds together. As someone who had a front row seat working with the iconic 1990s psychic hotlines, Jason has seen our industry evolve over time. He's witnessed firsthand the transformative power of psychic work and reveals the ins and outs of how he runs such a flourishing business, addressing topics such as onboarding practitioners, handling customer complaints, navigating frauds, and adapting to new technologies and changes in consumer behaviors. He even offers a convincing truth about the notion of "selling spirituality" - a perspective that changed our minds entirely about "the business of spirituality," prompting us to reconsider the way we brand and market ourselves.

    About Jason Freeland:

Jason Freeland has been working in new age marketplace businesses for over 30 years. In 1991, Freeland stumbled into the spiritual wellness business by producing the Psychic Friends Network. Freeland has also written and directed the feature film adaptation of James Ellroy’s Brown’s Requiem and a second feature, Garden Party. Freeland holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and attended USC’s School of Film and Television.

Outlook Amusements, Inc. was founded by Jason Freeland and Tim Youd, who met during a “junior year abroad” program at Oxford University during their college years. In 1995, they started their production company in conjunction with Western International Media. At the time, Western was the largest independent media buying agency in the world. In 1997, Freeland and Youd bought out Western’s interest in their business and soon thereafter developed the largest online live psychic and astrology network, which they sold to Keen.com in 2000. Keen.com (now called Ingenio, Inc.) was a Bay-area incubated startup focused on the delivery of live advice via the telephone and computer.

Today, Freeland continues to run Outlook Amusements, which primarily operates California Psychics.

    Mediumship Misconceptions with Katie O'Brien

    Mediumship Misconceptions with Katie O'Brien

Mediumship has a sordid history. Even today, the practice continues to receive mainstream criticism and stigmatization. As with many spiritual professions, mediumship has weathered the storms of frauds and scams, leaving a stain on its reputation that’s hard to remove. But when you really look into it, you have to wonder: why does this antiquated narrative still exist? After all, research shows that mediums are friendlier, more imaginative and intellectual, more confident and emotionally stable, and less neurotic and anxious than “normal people.” It goes beyond ‘energy’ too, with brain scans showing that mediums are in a distinct mental state while communicating with the deceased.

Study after study consistently reveals that a majority of people have favorable attitudes toward mediumship. It’s not only gaining widespread adoption, but it’s being practiced with shocking accuracy and healing benefits:

    • 7 in 10 Americans believe it’s possible to feel “the presence of someone who has died.” (Pew Research Center)
    • 87% of people report a decrease in grief, better emotional well-being and a greater sense of peace after seeing a medium (Forever Family Foundation)
    • 57% of people have contacted the deceased through a medium; 92% report feeling satisfied after seeing a medium; and 78% admit it’s a transformative experience (Windbridge Research Center)
    • 76% of people experience comfort, healing and closure after connecting with deceased loved ones via a medium (Journal of Scientific Exploration)
    • Accuracy rates consistently surpass what would be expected by chance alone, with a meta-analysis revealing an overall accuracy rate of 68% (Journal of Parapsychology)
    • Mediums have shown a 77% accuracy rate in providing details about the deceased - details that were unknown by the sitter at that time - and then were later verified to be accurate (Windbridge Research Center)

Clairannoyance co-hosts Megan and Ryan are joined by psychic medium and modern mystic Katie O’Brien in this episode. As a skeptic by nature, Katie brings an alternative perspective that lends some much-needed, down-to-earth legitimacy to this practice — and to the spiritual community in general. Katie shares her experience as a born medium who reclaimed her abilities in adulthood after shutting them down in her youth. We talk about her signature approach to mediumship - “soul readings" - a more holistic experience for clients. Topics we explore include: the various Clairs (shoutout to our podcast title); the difficulties of trusting yourself in this line of work; managing client expectations and delivering messages they might not want to hear; establishing healthy boundaries in your personal and professional life; plus much more.

We're not forcing you to start seeing a medium every day. But let’s be honest. Measurable data is proving mediumship's popularity, accuracy and real-world healing benefits. The only fictional thing going on here is the state of denial all the naysayers keep living in.

    About Katie O'Brien

Katie O'Brien is a modern mystic and spiritual advisor who uses her natural born abilities as a psychic medium to work with clients worldwide. Her skeptical mind helps her stand apart and stay grounded, bringing a more authentic approach to her work. Katie diligently validates the information she channels, offering a more holistic experience than you might expect. Her signature "soul readings" provide profound clarity, healing and spiritual development for clients. She transcends the work of a traditional medium to not only connect you with loved ones on on the other side, but she taps you into your own intuitive abilities as well.  Based in Charleston, South Carolina, Katie offers soul readings, human design readings, and intimate group readings. She's acquired numerous prestigious certifications as a master medium, life coach, holistic therapist and more. Her guidebook and journal, "Develop Your Psychic Abilities: How to Make Sense of What You Sense," further supports individuals in nurturing their spiritual well-being.

Day 28 Complacency: The dangers of comfort

Day 28 Complacency: The dangers of comfort

In today's episode, I look at the difference between Complacency and Contentment. Now, what is the difference? Complacency is “a feeling of quiet pleasure or security, often while unaware of some potential danger, defect, or the like; it is self-satisfaction or smug satisfaction with an existing situation, condition, or circumstance. It is that wonderful feeling of being fulfilled and comfortable, assuming that things will stay the same, causing us to remain in that comfort zone, doing just enough to get by and keep our life as is.  Contentment is having the attitude of working hard and being able to be happy with the outcome of your hard work, no matter what the results are. This is the opposite of complacency really, these two words or ideas are worlds apart from each other.

#11 The Healing Power of CBD with Shinta Lempers from Heal Mary

#11 The Healing Power of CBD with Shinta Lempers from Heal Mary

Shinta Lempers is the founder of Heal Mary from the Netherlands. Heal Mary is a CBD-oil company specialized for women and the female body. She wants “everyone to experience what cannabis can do,

for your mental health, body, spiritual well-being, your creativity, sex life and the planet. “ It’s a natural THC-free product that helps you conquer your life and calms you down without intoxicating yourself. It’s vegan, GMO and cruelty-free!

The founder is a long term blogger about Cannabis and its use for healing purposes and how to integrate it safely into your life. (In the Netherlands Cannabis is legal!) She is a studied lawyer and journalist and really knows what she is doing. Shinta saw a gap in the market, a misrepresentation for women because most Coffee-Shops are designed for men and a safe space for women is lacking. Understanding substances and using them should always be in a safe space, she says. And the female body is so complex and different, that she wanted to cater for women specifically.

Look forward to a conversation all about CBD of course, Cannabis and other substances, women, the female body, sensations and spirituality.
