S8 EP148: Breaking Into & Dominating the "Boys Club," Featuring ESPN SportsCenter Anchor Linda Cohn

Ok all you 10-ers, we are bringing another groundbreaker into Studio 50.  This week Laurie and Michelle will sit down with Hall of Fame Sportscaster, Linda Cohn.

Linda has served as a SportsCenter anchor since joining ESPN in 1992.  She is ESPN’s longest-tenured SportsCenter anchor and in early 2016 was recognized for anchoring her 5,000th SportsCenter, the most of any anchor in ESPN history. In 2017, she was inducted into the National Sports Media Association (NSMA) Hall of Fame.

In 2008, Cohn authored her autobiography – Cohn-Head: A No-Holds-Barred Account of Breaking into the Boys’ Club. The book details her hard-fought rise to the top of the sportscasting world and her life inside the ESPN empire.

This interview is an inspirational story for women who dare to be fearless and jump into the arena and unchartered waters.  Let’s Go.

How the COVID-Pandemic Effected Booking Events

How the COVID-Pandemic Effected Booking Events

For a convention facility to continue hosting events during COVID-19 requires adaptability and understanding the importance of guests’ safety.  Rita Harrell, a veteran in sales and the hospitality industry shares her effective booking strategy.  Learn how to communicate with planners that require face-to-face events during a pandemic, when a hybrid conference, trade show, or event is not an option.  Harrell shares that phone calls (verbal communication) made to planners led to her listening and understanding each group’s specific needs.  As you listen, it becomes apparent that to keep the convention industry moving forward, it is essential to collaborate more than ever, use creativity, and think positively while exploring ways to operate safely.  Currently, Harrell has booked 10 competition sporting events to fill the dates of the postponed trade shows or conventions, with re-bookings in the works.

Eyes And Teeth - King of The Swingers - Adger Brown (Comedian-Golfer-Auctioneer) talks to Steve Hewlett - Season 4 - Edition 7

Eyes And Teeth - King of The Swingers - Adger Brown (Comedian-Golfer-Auctioneer) talks to Steve Hewlett - Season 4 - Edition 7

Adger Brown is one of my oldest mates. We met in my first Showbusiness season in Barry Island in 1993 decades before Gavin & Stacey did, as a matter of fact we are probably the "original" Gavin & Stacey but without the heavy petting and arguing. I realised how down to earth, genuine and loyal Adger is and that had resulted in us becoming Brothers in The Grand order. Adger is very well respected in the Sporting Dinners and Golf Events World and has literally helped raise millions of pounds over the years. Being a Stand Up has its skills and Adger delivers that with ease on stage which is clearly evident but he also has those rare skills to Auction serious bids off to happy audience members whether they are the CEO of a Top Company or a Star in the World of Entertainment, we trust Adger, he has that honest persuasive delivery that encourages maybe a 90 year old lady to pay £800 for an abseiling day out or a Vegetarian to enjoy a weekend in an abattoir. OK, that has never happened but you get what I'm saying, Mr Brown is THAT good!
Now listen in to see how he deals with his audiences. Welcome Adger Brown

We had a blast talking about the suits and how it all started. The roadtrips they have taken to watch UTSA. And their passion for UTSA athletics. We end it with some start bench cuts, and fictional fights. Enjoy.
