    Sleekcastin kakkoskauden "suuret IT-johtajat ja ajattelijat" jaksossa on tänään Timo Railo, joka on Bulgariassa toimivan East -yrityksen perustaja ja toimitusjohtaja. East on perustettu 2006 Varnaan. 2011 Eastin ja Alkuvoima Interactiven yhdistyessä Timo muutti perheineen ensin Italiaan ja sitten Bulgariaan. Bulgariassa asumisessa Timo kehuu sijaintia, vuoristoa ja ruokakulttuuria.

    Bulgarialla on pitkät IT-perinteet. Siellä rakennettiin jo 70-luvulla IBM yhteensopivia mainframe tietokoneita, matemaattisen opetuksen taso on kova ja maa on ollut nearshore kohde niin kauan kuin IT-ala on ollut olemassa. Bulgariassa on hyvin edullinen verotus sekä yrityksille että työntekijöille, mikä kannustaa maassa operointia. Bulgarialaiset ovat tottuneita työskentelemään suurille yrityksille erilaisissa etätyö-asetelmissa, he puhuvat hyvää englantia ja bulgarialainen työkulttuuri on hyvin yhteensopiva skandinaavisen kulttuurin kanssa. Bulgariassa työvoiman vaihtuvuus on vähäisempää kuin muissa nearshore kohteissa. Bulgariaan on myös helppo ja halpa matkustaa skandeista. Bulgariassa on hyviä kokemuksia koulutuksen ja rekrytointipalveluiden yhdistämisestä. Tiimit rakennetaan pääsääntöisesti verkostoista, jolloin sopivia tekijöitä on aina tarjolla, joten huomio keskitetään tiimin toimivuuteen ja tehokkuuteen. Eastilla on yli 15 vuoden kokemus tästä toiminnasta, joten toiminta on aidosti toimivaa. Yleisin toimintamalli on että East toimii välittäjänä myös sopimusteknisesti, eli asiakas ja vendorit tekevät sopimuksen Eastin kanssa. Yksi nearshore -rajapinta tarjoaa asiakkaalle selkeyttä ja helppoutta. Aiemmin yleisempi tapa oli, että East kasasi ja käynnisti, mutta vendorit tekivät sopimukset suoraan asiakkaan kanssa. 

    Yrittämisessä Timon suurimmat opit ovat asiakashankinta ja kassanhallinta. Erityisesti luotaessa tuotetta kannattaa product-market-fit selvittää perusteellisesti ennen kuin koodataan riviäkään koodia. Rahahuolet taas stressaavat ja pilaavat elämänlaadun.

    IT -alalla trendi aaltoilee IT:n ulkoistamisen ja sisäistämisen välillä. Timon tuntuma on, että pohjolassa sisäistäminen on tällä hetkellä hyvin vahvaa, eli nyt alihankintaan enemmän yksittäisiä tekijöitä kuin kokonaisprojektitoimituksia. Tällä hetkellä markkinassa on valtavasti rahaa, kun jenkkiyritykset ovat siirtäneet koronan käynnistämän etätyöbuumin myötä toimintoja Eurooppaan. Toisaalta Ukrainan kriisin ja inflaation nopeutumisen myötä startup rahoitus on lähtenyt hidastumaan. Toisaalta Venäjän, Valko-Venäjän ja Ukrainan sulku IT-markkinasta on lisännyt kysyntää muualla Itä-Euroopassa.
