"How many times have I looked back at a place I haven't visited in 10 years? I think this is a great time for people who are used to traveling to go back to your hard drive ... take some time to revel in the memories," Nabongo said. "I think because we're constantly planning the next trip, we never get to reminisce about what was so great about so many trips that we've already had, whether it's two months ago, two years ago or 12 years ago."

Even if you can’t make the time right now for an official “Staycation” you can implement some of these strategies to inlcud emore YOU time into your busy on-the-go schedule. We are inspired by these 3 tips from Jessica Sager:

    Staycation Ideas: Part 2

    Staycation Ideas: Part 2

Staycationing means vacationing from home. Whether it’s a long weekend or an entire week, you get to choose what each day will entail. Taking a much-needed mental health break from your normal routine (and from the world news) is key to recharging your batteries. Here in Part 2, we suggest:

    TOUR YOUR OWN CITY

When was the last time you walked around your own  hometown?  Even if a lot of local attractions are shut down, you can still walk around and learn something about the history and culture of your area and find new places to walk and hike. Or Take quick drive to a nearby town or even an unfamiliar suburb of your own city can make a fun adventure.  Drive an hour out and see what you find- take day trips- explore ...for added fun- go for a top-down cruised in a Rented convertible for the day. turn off your map apps and get lost in your city And of course, add The ROAMies ,Alexa James and Rory Partin  music to your road trip and exploring playlists :)   And don’t forget- You can also Geocache locally! Geocaching is a family friendly activity you can dowhile safely social distancing. Geocaching is the world's largest treasure hunt https://www.geocaching.com/play1. To get started, you can Create an account online or through the Geocaching® app to view a map of geocaches near you.
    2. Find a geocache. Use the app to navigate to a geocache nearby. Don’t forget to bring a pen (and consider hiding your own once you’ve found around 20 of them)!
    3. Share your experience.  Once you find the geocache, sign and date the logbook. Place the geocache back where you found it and log your experience online.

    Enjoy a Self-Care SPA DAY

Give yourself permission to balance the stress of what's going on and let your mind be at ease. Take a self-care day and indulge in being by yourself and/or pampering yourself. Homemade facials and mani-pedi’s to exfoliating baths and yoga and stretching and eating poshy healthy foods.  You can even take extra steps to decorate your bathroom like a resort spa, fix some citrus infused ice water, essential oils, beautiul flower bouquets, relaxing music and schdule your homemade spa services. My favorite homemeade mask is super simple- whip up an egg white or two to a nice foam and apply to a clean face for 20 minutes. This really lifts and tightens your skin and it feels wonderful. Yogurt, banana and avacado have wonderful hydrating properties and also easily mix together to create a wonderful mask made from your kitchen ingredients.

    HOME REPAIR, RENOVATIONS AND REMAKES

Of course, sometimes you need staycations to get those house projects DONE, finally declutter and organize hidden closets and basements, and set up your home

Your Staycation Can Be A Wonderful Time For Families To Discover New Cultures

Your Staycation Can Be A Wonderful Time For Families To Discover New Cultures

A STAYcation IS a wonderful opportunity for your kids or grandkids to learn about and appreciate other countries and cultures while having fun all at the same time. CREATIVE COOKING: instead of grabbing takeout or the same old same old- Try new cultural themes and new recipes.  Ask each family member where they would like to travel if they could go anywhere right now. Use those locations to inspire creative cooking and baking.   Can’t get to Singapore  this year? Find some recipes and experience a version of the culture from your own kitchen.

    VIRTUAL EXPERIENCES:
IN the evenings- you can hunker down on your couch and enjoy VIRTUAL EXPERIENCES as a family. We’ll put links to these in our show notes
VIRTUAL MUESUMS!  Much more fun with family members. Connect your computer to your big screen and tour online virtual museums together. No one will be there to “Shush” you while you make comments about the interesting and historical things you find.  We liked an idea we saw on travelingtanya.com : create a virtual scavenger hunt.
See who can be the first to figure out how to say Happy Birthday in Italian, discover the primary language spoken in Switzerland, or reveal the population of Thailand.
And to keep the VIRTUAL theme going, you can also virtually TOUR National theme parks. We’ll put the link to that in the show notes. https://www.departures.com/travel/national-parks-virtual-tour
Take a virtual castle tour  https://www.tripstodiscover.com/virtual-castle-tours/
from the comfort of your couch and indulge in history without all the musty smells and drafts.
Take a tour of an airplane.
Not flying this year? Get the feel of it anyway with a virtual tour of an Airbus, including the cockpit.  https://www.airbus.com/aircraft/passenger-aircraft/cockpits.html
You can also take virtual tours of the places you’ve always wanted to go (and perhaps some of the places you planned on going this year pre-COVID) with Tours By Locals or  With virtual tours of Japan, The Great Wall of China, the Northern Lights, numerous World Heritage Sites, Maldives and more.
