In Ep. 041 we open a discussion on tactics vs. strategy. While tactics (specific actions or tools, like webinars) are more visible and often get the credit, the underlying strategy (long-term plans and brand-building) is the real driver of success.

Tactics are short-term, instantly gratifying actions that can give the illusion of progress. On the other hand, strategies are long-term plans and efforts that genuinely bring about success. Using Alex Hormozi as an example, we show how it was Hormozi's years of strategic brand-building that allowed his tactics, like his webinar, to be successful. Without the right strategy, even the best-executed tactic is likely to fail.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Tactics vs. Strategy: Tactics are short-term actions or tools that are visible and often credited for success. Strategy, however, is the long-term plan and effort behind that success.
    • Illusion of Tactics: Tactics can offer instant gratification and make things seem easy, but they're not the main driver of success.
    • Using Alex Hormozi as a Case Study: Alex Hormozi had 500,000 people register for his webinar. But the real success driver was the 4+ years he spent building his personal brand.
    • The Iceberg Analogy: What we see (tactics) is just the tip of the iceberg. The real bulk (strategy) is hidden below the surface.
    • Dangers of Blind Copying Competitors: Simply copying another's tactics without understanding or having the underlying strategy can lead to failure.
    • Marketing's Seductive Nature: Marketing can be persuasive, preying on our desires for quick success. But understanding the strategy behind a success story is crucial.

Focus on Strategy for Genuine Success (Please!) Before diving into tactics, it's essential to have a solid strategy in place for long-term results.

The Art of the Culture War: Revealing the Strategies of the Left with James Lindsay - The Vivek Show

The Art of the Culture War: Revealing the Strategies of the Left with James Lindsay - The Vivek Show

In this eye-opening discussion, U.S. Presidential Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and cultural critic James Lindsay delve into the tactics and strategies used by the left in the ongoing culture war. They discuss the challenges within the current political landscape, the rise of the ESG movement, and the strategic maneuvers used to demoralize and exhaust creative problem-solving. Together, they expose the hidden playbook of their opponents and emphasize the need to address the root causes of cultural and political issues. The conversation provides valuable insights into the long-term strategies employed by activist groups to infiltrate and subvert institutions.

James Lindsay is a renowned cultural critic, author, and speaker, best known for his incisive analysis of critical theory, social justice ideologies, and the culture wars. Holding a Ph.D. in mathematics, Lindsay transitioned from academia to focus on examining the philosophical underpinnings and real-world implications of postmodern thought and identity politics. He has co-authored several influential books, including "Cynical Theories: How Activist Scholarship Made Everything about Race, Gender, and Identity—and Why This Harms Everybody" and "How to Have Impossible Conversations: A Very Practical Guide." Lindsay's work has garnered attention from various media outlets, and he frequently shares his insights through public speaking engagements and on his social media platforms. As a thought leader, he strives to promote open dialogue, critical thinking, and intellectual honesty in a rapidly changing sociopolitical landscape.

    Time Codes:

00:00 - Vivek introduces the water balloon analogy to describe the shifting of problems in politics and culture.

00:33 - Critique of Republican politicians for their limited understanding of the culture war.

01:15 - Vivek discusses the rise of the ESG movement and its implications for capitalism.

03:06 - Importance of puncturing the metaphorical water balloon and addressing root issues.

03:32 - Emphasizing understanding the "why" behind actions rather than just focusing on the "what."

04:24 - The role of accreditation bodies in influencing private schools.

05:09 - Introduction to James Lindsay and their shared intellectual journey.

08:12 - The importance of operational thinking in addressing societal issues.

08:20 - James Lindsay on how Antifa provokes law enforcement to create chaos at protests.

09:15 - Introduction to the tactics manual "Beautiful Trouble."

10:07 - The principle "Your real action is your target's reaction" and its relation to operational thinking.

10:57 - Comparison of these tactics to Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" and the importance of understanding the opposition's strategies.

12:01 - Danger of underestimating opponents who are more strategic and focused on long-term goals.

13:33 - Discussion of the "black pill" mentality, representing a fatalistic view of the future.

15:18 - The importance of not falling into the trap of limited creativity and stepping into pre-set directions.

18:02 - Explanation of how accrediting bodies have been captured by proponents of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

23:21 - Explanation of the Long March through the Institutions strategy and its influence on modern ideologies.

25:21 - Discussion on how the "infection" game only works on individuals susceptible to ideological
00:31:49 - James Lindsay talks about the concept of "legitimation by ology" in a post-modern world, highlighting the use of false logic and consensus for validation.

00:32:43 - Lindsay explains how the left has weaponized post-modern theories and critical theories, using moral consensus to legitimize their ideas.

00:33:56 - He highlights how activists strategically target choke points and monopolies of influence, comparing their tactics to wartime strategies.

00:35:22 - The conversation ties ESG and school choice together, emphasizing the importance of thinking at scale and fighting back legally when necessary.

00:45:12 - Vivek points out that companies and institutions are rebranding ESG as "sustainable finance" in response to criticism.

00:45:50 - James and Vivek discuss how CRT proponents use the same tactics, denying its presence in schools and instead claiming they are practicing "culturally relevant teaching."

00:47:08 - They mention Greta Thunberg receiving an honorary doctorate of theology, reflecting the religious nature of climate activism.

00:47:32 - James emphasizes that CRT is the operative concept behind culturally relevant pedagogy and that understanding this connection requires diligent research.

China, TikTok, and the CCP’s Unrestricted Warfare Against America | FP Episode 35

China, TikTok, and the CCP’s Unrestricted Warfare Against America | FP Episode 35

America is at war! With whom, you might ask? The Chinese Communist Party. The CCP is waging what China’s military leaders call unrestricted warfare against the United States, utilizing unconventional tactics that don’t involve traditional weapons or clashes between military forces. Instead, China is engaging in trade warfare, economic warfare, and information warfare. And one of China’s principal weapons in its unrelenting assault on the United States is TikTok. I’ll tell you why America has to wake up and fight back, and why it’s time to ban TikTok outright.

Then, in today’s Behind the Headline segment: Alvin Bragg demonstrates his incompetence as he and the Left try to undermine the rule of law in pursuit of indicting President Trump; a high-ranking Defense Department official assures Americans that our country is focused on LGBT rights, confirming that the Biden Administration’s foreign policy is hopelessly misguided; and violent protests erupt in France.

    Rant of the Week (20:21)

Here's how 5 mobile banking apps put 300,000 users' digital fingerprints at risk

Massive amounts of private data – including more than 300,000 biometric digital fingerprints used by five mobile banking apps – have been put at risk of theft due to hard-coded Amazon Web Services credentials, according to security researchers.

Symantec's Threat Hunter Team said it discovered 1,859 publicly available apps, both Android and iOS, containing baked-in AWS credentials. That means if someone were to look inside the apps, they would have found the credentials in the code, and could potentially have used that to access the apps' backend Amazon-hosted servers and steal users' data. The vast majority (98 percent) were iOS apps.

In all, 77 percent of these apps contained valid AWS access tokens that allowed access to private AWS cloud services, the intelligence team noted in research published today.

Twitter starts testing an edit button, but you have to pay for it

Twitter is now testing its highly requested Edit Tweet feature. After years of memes and jokes, editable tweets will be available to some Twitter Blue subscribers later this month. The feature is currently undergoing “internal testing” and appears to mimic Facebook in its edit style, with a linked edit history for tweets that we saw in leaks earlier this year.

“Tweets will be able to be edited a few times in the 30 minutes following their publication,” according to a Twitter blog post. “Edited Tweets will appear with an icon, timestamp, and label so it’s clear to readers that the original Tweet has been modified.”

Psychology of Human Power, Social Status & Influence | Robert Greene | #66

Nick speaks to writer Robert Greene, who is the author of several books exploring different, and sometimes dark, aspects of human psychology. The discussion focuses on the subject of his first book, "The 48 Laws of Power."

They discuss what power is and how it's used. Different psychological traits that people who successfully acquire power tend to have. Strategies that have been useful throughout history for acquiring more power, as well as those that lead to a loss of power. Robert talks the political scientist Niccolo Machiavelli, and how he is often misunderstood. He also gave his perspective on some influential people with power today, including Vladimir Putin, Angela Merkel, and Elon Musk.

60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: Inspiration Buffet

Hello to you listening in East Lansing, Michigan!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.

Maybe like me you enjoy a buffet table where you can pick and choose what you would enjoy eating, what appears nourishing, interesting, satisfying. Here is your buffet table of inspirations:

Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up.” [Stephen Hawking]

"You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make." [Jane Goodall]

You must always build your opponent a ‘golden bridge’ so that he can find a way to retreat.” [Sun Tzu, the Chinese theorist of war]

"Any oppressed people will always look like they are asleep to everybody from the oppressor to the organizers to the experts who are observing and writing about them . . . The people who seem asleep always awake at the most unusual times. No one ever predicts when or where people will rise up. . . . If you predict a revolt here, it will start there." [Tom Hayden]

In any organization, the most important thing is a shared idea.” [Someone who knew what they were talking about]

Question: Which inspiration inspires you today?

    Camouflage and Deception

    Camouflage and Deception

Since pre-history, both hunters and fighters have relied upon camouflage and deception to both improve their chances of survival and success in attacking their enemy.  Caesar used ships with blue sails to disguise his reconnaissance of Britain, whilst a Chinese army used thousands of bonfires to suggest to their opponents that a vast army was deserting and becoming smaller every day.  Right up to modern days camouflage and deception have been essential.  During the Boer War, the guerrilla fighters lay under the soil with breathing reeds to escape British forces: in World War I, British snipers hid in hollowed out trees in No Man’s Land to fire on German positions.

Then there were the great deceptions, the dummy airfields and fake tanks prior to Normandy landings in 1944.  Of course, sometimes neither deception nor camouflage work: Western intelligence quickly saw through Putin’s ruse in invading Ukraine.  Yet there will always be a soldier lying with foliage covering his combat fatigues and there will always be strategists devising methods of throwing the enemy off the scent.  Today, intelligent camouflage shields can replicate the surroundings and render positions invisible.  And cyber space has created a sphere of disinformation and further confusion.  It is a world constructed by layer upon layer of deception from the front line to the war room.

It has roots in the past and will extend into the future.

SOUTH AFRICA IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL

We invite you to join us on an exciting journey through South Africa with Sir Nicholas Soames, the grandson of Sir Winston Churchill. Christopher Wilmot-Sitwell, Co-Owner + Director of cazenove+loyd, has hand-designed an extraordinary journey with Rovos Rail, which will take one of the world’s most opulent trains deep into the heartlands of the Boer War.

The trip will trace Sir Winston Churchill’s footsteps during the war, from his dramatic capture by the Boers to his subsequent escape via freight train. Joining you on this journey will be Sir Winston Churchill’s grandson, Sir Nicholas Soames, a former British Member of Parliament and fantastic storyteller, who will regale you with tales of his grandfather and bring KwaZulu-Natal’s Boer battlefields to life.

“I feel very strongly that much of my grandfather’s life was shaped by his time in South Africa, in particular when he was captured by the Boers and subsequently made his escape,” says Sir Nicholas Soames. “So much of who he was and who he was to become came through at this moment of great danger and personal desperation. It will be a privilege to lead this trip next September, travelling by train to visit many of the most important battlefields of the Boer War. I believe that much of Churchill’s audacity and courage – and his drive and ambition – comes to light in his experiences as a young man in Africa. These characteristics are what made him into the national hero that he later became.”

This phenomenal opportunity promises to be fascinating, entertaining and full of learning, with the luxury of returning to one of the world’s most stunning trains every evening.

All *Spy* Cops Are Bastards w/ Tom Fowler (Part 1 of 2)

All *Spy* Cops Are Bastards w/ Tom Fowler (Part 1 of 2)

What's up to my rapturous red kites and perspicacious puffins

Welcome back to the BNP, thank you for tuning in, and dang, do I have a gladsome cock-a-hoop of an episode for all y'all today, my dearest lovies and lily-footed listeners.

This week's guest is Tom Fowler, who calls in all the way from Wales to break down an ongoing public inquiry into abusive and morally abhorrent undercover policing practices in the UK. Tom is a member of an anarchist collective that was infiltrated, and he became close friends with a man who was later outed as an undercover pig.

Tom and other like-minded comrades are a critical part of a growing movement to shed light on and hold to legal account undercover donut munchers who have been manipulating and abusing law abiding citizens in the UK for decades.

These fuck-head cops infiltrate perfectly legal and constitutionally protected political activism groups, such as the anarchist collective Tom was a part of, then proceed to keep gratuitous and explicit notes about all the members, particularly the young women, and finally they attempt to ingratiate themselves within the group's core leadership.

Spy pigs have cultivated intimate relationships with women in groups they've infiltrated, and some have even fathered children with these women, before disappearing when their "deployment" ends. And to think: the state pays them to do this. If that doesn't get you heated, I don't know what to tell ya.

Big shout out to Tom for being so generous with his time and for sharing his experiences and insights. Something Tom says that I really dig is that he is strives to always be a "combatant not a victim." I resonate with that vibe and it's a sentiment I do my best to convey thru Barbarian Noetics.  Be a barbarian, not a victim.

The Mandate of Heaven, Part 1

In this episode, the Shang Dynasty falls and the Zhou Dynasty rises to take its place. But being the faction at the top is harder than it looks, and over time the Zhou suffer a gradual decline. However, the political and philosophical ideas which they nurtured continue to influence East Asian thought today.
