    Escândalo de corrupção, prisão de ministro, alta rotatividade no comando da pasta, desmonte no Inep, falta de coordenação durante a pandemia, diminuição de investimento, alta evasão escolar… Os problemas não foram poucos no Ministério da Educação durante o governo Bolsonaro. E as consequências tendem a se alastrar por vários anos, aumentando o fosso entre a qualidade do ensino público e do ensino privado no País.

    E o que têm dito os presidenciáveis sobre o tema? O presidente Jair Bolsonaro (PL), candidato à reeleição, diz que quer melhorar a pontuação do Brasil em rankings e que irá qualificar professores para que atuem em sala de aula “sem ideologia”. O ex-presidente Lula (PT) pretende universalizar o acesso à internet e se compromete a assegurar as políticas de cotas raciais e sociais nas universidades federais e nos concursos públicos. 

    Já a proposta central de Ciro Gomes (PDT) é criar incentivos financeiros para boas iniciativas na educação. Na mesma linha, a candidata do MDB, Simone Tebet, defende a “Poupança Mais Educação”, para incentivar os jovens de baixa renda a concluírem o Ensino Médio.

    Quais deveriam ser as prioridades da nova gestão na área da Educação a partir de 2023? Qual é o perfil ideal de ministro do MEC? Os planos de governo dos candidatos contemplam propostas que vão além das platitudes?     Angela Saini is an award-winning British science journalist and broadcaster. She presents science programmes on the BBC, and her writing has appeared in New Scientist, The Sunday Times, National Geographic and Wired. Her latest book, Superior: the Return of Race Science, was a finalist for the LA Times Book Prize and named a book of the year by The Telegraph, Nature and Financial Times. Her previous book, Inferior: How Science Got Women Wrong, has been translated into thirteen languages. Angela has a Masters in Engineering from the University of Oxford and was a Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

    In this conversation, we talked about her newest book Superior: the Return of Race Science and many ideas that surround her book, including the nature vs. nurture debate, how should we define progress, genetics, creeping ideologies in science, and much more.
