95: I Was Made for More: 7 year sobriety anniversary with Honey Duncan

95: I Was Made for More: 7 year sobriety anniversary with Honey Duncan

My guest, Honey Duncan, is celebrating her 7th year of sobriety today – February 20, 2024.

It took just one pain pill to cause her descent into addiction. While that pain pill helped with her back pain, it also helped numb her emotional pain. She liked how that pill seemingly solved her problems.

She quotes actor Russell Brand in her interview. He said, “Drugs and alcohol are not my problem. Reality is my problem. Drugs and alcohol are the solutions to my problem.”

Four overdoses scared her, but they were not her rock bottom. Jail was. While there, Honey decided, “I was made for more.” Jail was the needed ‘wakeup call’ to take recovery seriously.

Today is a day of celebration. One in which Honey will give all the credit to God for breaking the stronghold of addiction.

Notable quotes from this episode with Honey Duncan:

    ·         “I don’t know at what point I gave up on being worthy. But I was like I’m never gonna be worthy, so I might as well be bad.”

    ·         “There’s no running away from your pains. You have to confront them and overcome them.”

    ·         “The only person my anger is hurting is myself.”

    Bible verses:

    ·         Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.”

    ·         Ephesians 6:12 NLT “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”

What does it mean to Surrender to God? | Ep. 79

What does it mean to Surrender to God? | Ep. 79

    Just surrender to God.

We hear it all the time.

But what does it actually mean?

And how do you do it?

Some of y'all are being told to surrender to God and you'd love to, but you just don't know how.

It's important to note that surrender isn't something you just do once.

It's a daily decision. It's a lifestyle. It's a moment by moment attitude and posture of the heart toward God, His Word, and the Holy Spirit.

Here are my 3 biblical definitions of surrender that work together in unison:

    1) to cease resisting to God and submit to HIs authority
    2) to give up or hand over a right, person, or possession to God
    3) to abandon oneself entirely to the will of the Father and the Holy Spirit

I may be the first to tell you that surrender can be hard. But the more you do it, the easier it gets. It's like a muscle.

Surrender is letting go. It's giving over the need to control everything.

YoursSurrender leads to the peace and prosperity of your soul.

James 4:7 says, "Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you."

What you can't control, surrender to God.

It may be a dream, mindset, or future plan.

If it's leading to mental bondage, you need to put it in God's hands.

"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers." (1 John 2)

Surrender to the Process [ft. Ruby La Bianca] | Ep. 11

Surrender to the Process [ft. Ruby La Bianca] | Ep. 11

In this episode, WE HAVE A SPECIAL GUEST! Ruby La Bianca and I discuss what is looks like to surrender to the process of letting God work the soil of your heart, how Jesus is the high priest who relates to us even in surrender, and how the process may not be without uncomfortability but there are such amazing moments of sweetness throughout. We look at several passages of scripture, Jesus' last words on the cross, and our own personal experiences to draw the conclusion that any unsurrendered ground IS the enemy's territory.

173– The Parable of the Overloaded Backpack: What Will You Surrender to God?

173 – Is there anything you need to surrender to God?

This week's episode is a parable about  six year-old Charlotte, who tries to take all 12 of her stuffed animals on a hike, crammed into her backpack.

But it's not so easy to keep them all tucked away. One after the other they either fall in the water, get left behind, get covered in mud, or fall in a thorn bush.

But Charlotte is determined to take all her "friends" with her each day.

Join in the fun and listen as the wise little six-year old summarizes the camping and hiking trip:

“I had the best time ever and my favorite thing was that I learned sometimes the things you love, hold you back when you hold onto them too much. Sometimes you have to let go of the things you love so you can go where you want to.”

The question is on the table for you and me: What will you take out of your overloaded backpack? What will you surrender so you can follow Christ more closely?

Check out the full transcript of this episode at thebiblespeakstoyou.com/173.

I also make mention of a conversation I had with my friend Pam Fields, host of The Mom Next Door: Stories of Faith Podcast. Pam shares how she was able to surrender something from the past and accepting the Holy Spirit's gift in exchange.

S3E24 - About the Real You with David H. Green

S3E24 - About the Real You with David H. Green

I think you may find this episode to have an interesting conversation with David H. Green because he's a talented and interesting guy. He's an author, musician, filmmaker, spiritual teacher, inventor, and also a rabbi - and this is the first time I've had a guest talk about some of the traditional Jewish beliefs. But we talked about spirituality generally and especially about the real you - i.e., your soul. The discussion came around to oneness, and David (as a musician) used the interesting analogy of playing in a symphony, which I liked. But we also covered topics such as resistance, surrender, humility, acceptance, purpose, learning life lessons, and love. Near the end, David told listeners to "Get the courage to be spiritual" in response to a world that often denies spirit, kindness, and goodness, And he advised us to "Turn down the distractions and find time to talk with God within you." Yes, the inner work, or even just finding the time to go within and quietly listen to our soul, is one of the most beneficial things we can do. You can learn more about him at RealYouProject.com, or look for David H. Green on social media.

How to Let Go of Aversions & Attractions & Surrender to GOD

How to Let Go of Aversions & Attractions & Surrender to GOD

In this week's "Your Weekly Dose of Higher Consciousness" something came to me that I wanted to share with you.

I feel like it's an advanced spiritual understanding, that if you "get it', then your efforts at letting go of many lower-level things will help you raise your consciousness more readily.

So what I am sharing with you today is how to let go of aversions and attractions, and surrender to God that effort and intention.

During my discussion of letting go of aversions and attractions, I discuss what aversions are and what attractions are with examples and help you to understand why you would even want to let go of aversions and attractions.

I also tell a story about a lesson in letting go of aversions and how the opportunity to learn about letting go of aversions came to me through my experience watching The Ranch on Netflix.

Listen in how I describe my initial aversion to some aspects of The Ranch on Netflix. I then describe how insights came to me about the issue I had aversions to and how the aversion melted away when I recognized another point of view (call it God's view).

I then share a review of The Ranch on Netflix from a different perspective and understanding. When you operate from higher levels of consciousness you start to see things through a truer lense and understanding.
