    An Unholy Rebellion

    Sermon 78 in Series

    Exodus 32:1-6

[1] When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” [2] So Aaron said to them, “Take off the rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” [3] So all the people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. [4] And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden calf. And they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” [5] When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the LORD.” [6] And they rose up early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.

    DEEP SHEET: Sermon Study Questions
    1.
How is the golden calf incident connected back to prior frustrations? What set of vices do we see at work in v. 1?
    2.   How does God use waiting in the life of a Christian? In what ways have you struggled with waiting and trusting?
    3.   What does this passage suggest about the soil from which idolatry grows? How does it refine our understanding of human depravity?
    4.   What are we to make of Aaron’s sin? How are Christians today tempted to conform to the majority?
    5.   How has God convicted you of using gifts to replace the Giver? How can those gifts be redirected for his holy purposes?
    6.   How does v. 6 highlight the extent of Israel’s sin? What does it say about the conscience?
    7.   Why does the golden calf serve as a fitting backdrop for the building of the tabernacle? How does it point to the fulfillment of the tabernacle in Christ?  References: Ephesians 5:20; Exodus 24:18; 15:24; 16:3; 17:3; 20:1-6; 24:7; 12:36; 1 Kings 12:28-29; Psalm 106:19-22; Exodus 24:4-5.

    The Problem with Graven Images

    The Problem with Graven Images

The golden calf incident is a story of massive failure. More than simply making an idol, Israel was compromising the grandeur and totality of God with their local surroundings and embracing a pluralistic mindset. We tend to do the same things quite often. Like them, it typically comes from an impatience with God. Rather than embracing God for all of who he is, we take preferred slices and form a god in our own image. This always leads to self-indulgence and destruction.

Foundation with Steve Teed Season 2 Ep 26: Ideologies and Syncretism

Foundation with Steve Teed Season 2 Ep 26: Ideologies and Syncretism

In this episode of Foundation with Steve Teed, we look at the clash of the world ideology with that of a Biblical one.  We will also look at what happens when you try to mix two conflicting ideologies.

We will start this episode by first looking at the ideology put forth by the world.  Although the world says that its ideology is inclusive and open, we will see how the very opposite is true.

We will see this demonstrated first through the acronym of the LGBT2QQIAAP.

After this, we will see just how this ideology plays out by looking at two new stories that show what happens when you don't bow down to the ideology.

After the break, we will define the word Syncretism and see the effects of it when a Christian tries to adopt the ideologies of the world into a Biblical worldview.

    Episode 37 - Deconstructionism

    Episode 37 - Deconstructionism

Popular Christians are deconstructing their faith and it seems to be a trend we are seeing in our churches today. What does it mean to deconstruct?

RR Pod E25P2 Dr. Luke Walker- Allen Ginsberg & His Blakean Revival: 'Counterculture' and Esoteric Intersections

In Part 2, Luke and I discuss the esoteric connections and intersections with the figures of Blake and Ginsberg. We talk about in the influence of Emmanuel Swedenborg and Gnosticism on the worldviews of both Blake and Ginsberg, how Ginsberg saw Buddhism and Gnosticism as being connected in a syncretic way, and what contemporary artists could be viewed as ‘carrying on the Blakean torch’ in our own popular culture.

Dr Luke Walker has published widely on the intersections between British Romantic poetry, American counterculture, and esotericism.
His publications include "‘One physical-mental inspiration of thought': Allen Ginsberg and Black Mountain poetics", in The Beats, Black Mountain, and New Modes in American Poetry, ed. Matt Theado (2021), “Beat Britain: poetic vision and division in Albion’s ‘underground’”, in The Routledge Handbook of International Beat Literature, ed. A. Robert Lee (2018), “Tangled up in Blake: the triangular relationship among Dylan, Blake, and the Beats”, in Rock and Romanticism: Blake, Wordsworth, and Rock from Dylan to U2, ed. James Rovira (2018), “Allen Ginsberg’s ‘Wales Visitation’ as a neo-Romantic response to Wordsworth’s ‘Tintern Abbey’”, in Romanticism journal (2013), and “Allen Ginsberg’s Blakean Albion,” in Comparative American Studies journal (2013). Most recently, Luke co-edited a special issue of the Bulletin of the John Rylands Library, on “The Artist of the Future Age: William Blake, Neo-Romanticism, Counterculture and Now” (2022).

He is now writing a book entitled William Blake and Allen Ginsberg: Romanticism, Counterculture and Radical Reception.

    Freemasonry and the Coming Antichrist

    Freemasonry and the Coming Antichrist

    A FRANK EXPOSURE OF FREEMASONRY

John Quincy Adams, the sixth President of these United States, said:

“I am prepared to complete the demonstration before God and men, that the Masonic oath, obligation, and penalties cannot by any possibility be reconciled to the laws of morality, of Christianity or of the land.”

Drawn from the Kabalah, and taking the Jewish or Christian verbiage or symbols, it but discerns in them universal truths which it recognizes in all other religions.”

Masonry Is Not Based on the Bible

Another spurious claim, which is often heard, is that Masonry is based on the Bible. IF THIS WERE TRUE, IT WOULD NOT GUARANTEE DIVINE FAVOR. There are hundreds of sects over the world professing to be founded on the Bible. Is this proof that all of them are divinely sanctioned? Most certainly not. An institution or organization enjoys divine favor only so far as it teaches the truth as it is in Christ Jesus. For an institution to profess to be founded on the Bible and then teach heresy, only aggravates the guilt that attaches to the teaching of false doctrine.

But Masonry is not based on the Bible, and cannot truthfully make that claim. All that can be truthfully said, is that in Christian countries, a copy of the Bible is one of the necessary pieces of furniture; that it is used in the taking of oaths and that parts of it are read in the conferring of degrees.

Mackey, in his Manual of the Lodge, page 49, says: "The furniture of the lodge consists of a Holy Bible, square and compass." These are called "the three great lights of Masonry ."

Then from A Digest of Masonic Law, by Chase, page 207, we read: "The Jews, the Chinese, the Turks, each reject either the New Testament, or the Old, or both, and yet we see no good reason why they should not be Masons. IN FACT, BLUE LODGE MASONRY (the first three degrees), HAS NOTHING WHATEVER TO DO WITH THE BIBLE. IT IS NOT FOUNDED ON THE BIBLE; IF IT WAS IT WOULD NOT BE MASONRY; IT WOULD BE SOMETHING ELSE."

"And then from Mackey's Lexicon comes the following enlightening comment: "The Bible is used among Masons (NOT AS AN INSPIRED REVELATION), but only as a symbol of the will of God, however, it may be expressed."

This matter is further elucidated by the following quotation from the same author's Text Book of Masonic Jurisprudence: "It is a landmark that a 'Book of Law' shall constitute an indispensable part of the furniture of every lodge. I say advisedly a 'Book of the Law' because it is not absolutely required that everywhere the Old and New Testament shall be used. THE 'BOOK OF THE LAW' IS THAT VOLUME WHICH BY THE RELIGION OF THE COUNTRY IS BELIEVED TO CONTAIN THE REVEALED WILL OF THE GREAT ARCHITECT OF THE UNIVERSE. Hence in all lodges in Christian countries the 'Book of the Law' is composed of the Old and New Testaments; in a country where Judaism was the prevailing faith, the Old Testament alone would be sufficient; AND IN MOHAMMEDAN COUNTRIES AND AMONG MOHAMMEDAN MASONS, THE KORAN MIGHT BE SUBSTITUTED."

This explains the use of the Red Fez and its Antichrist messaging while promoting good works... https://amos37.com/freemasonry-exposed/

Daniel 1: Biblical Evangelism vs Babylonian Syncretism

Daniel 1: Biblical Evangelism vs Babylonian Syncretism

We examine the nature of evangelism through the book of Daniel, and compare it to the syncretism of Babylon.
Nebuchadnezzar not only took vessels sanctified and used for the worship of the Lord, and devoted them to his own god, but also removed the "best" of the children from Israel to re-educate them to serve him.
Take a look with us at the ministry of Daniel, from the time in which he lived, all the way to our time now.

The Redeeming Love Bible Broadcast is a ministry of Grace Baptist Tabernacle. We're excited to be under construction on a brand new building in our hometown of King, NC. You Can't Love What You Don't Know (Acts 17:22-34)

You Can't Love What You Don't Know (Acts 17:22-34)
Are you in the market for amateur theology, mixed with very, very amateur philosophy?! Then you're in the right place! As we examine Paul's speech to the Greek intellectuals in Acts 17, we examine how we too can reach our non-Christian neighbour through a similar commitment to treading lightly with Scripture and utilizing pagan art to illuminate the truth about God. The key to loving someone is to learn about them first.I left much of the excellent discussion from after the sermon (though some was edited out). Also: what I describe as "pantheism" is actually "polytheism" (poly= many, theo= gods). Whoops. And finally, here is a link to the podcast that informed most of my (very amateur) philosophy. -CL[ https://thisculturalmoment.podbean.com/ ]
