    39 - Self Forgiveness

    39 - Self Forgiveness

Are you overly hard on yourself? Do you tend to shame and blame yourself when things don't go how you want them to? Do you find it hard to let yourself on the hook for ordinary human frailty? If so, you need to learn how to forgive yourself. On this week's episode, Del and Barry share how self-forgiveness is an act of self-compassion. It allows us to acknowledge that we, like everyone else, are human and capable of making mistakes. When we learn to forgive ourselves, we can leave the past in the past and move forward from guilt, shame, or regret to create the future we desire. And most importantly, when we learn to forgive ourselves, we become more understanding and compassionate towards others.

    38 - Forgiveness of Others

Do you find it hard to forgive someone who hurt you? Are you holding onto old resentments that are weighing you down? In this week's episode, Del and Barry discuss how forgiving those who have hurt us is a powerful act of self-love. When we let go of resentment and anger, it sets us free. It doesn't mean condoning the behavior but rather freeing ourselves from the burden of carrying that hurt. It involves understanding that people make mistakes and choosing to release the negative emotions tied to those transgressions. Forgiveness promotes emotional healing, fosters empathy, and can mend relationships, ultimately offering peace and closure.

37 - How To Apologize Authentically

Do you sometimes find your attempts to apologize don't always land you the way intended? Or even worse, they sometimes make the matter worse? In this week's episode, Del and Barry discuss how to apologize authentically. Begin by acknowledging your mistake and taking full responsibility for your actions. Express genuine remorse, showing empathy for the hurt you may have caused. Avoid excuses or defensiveness; instead, listen to the other person's feelings and perspective. Commit to making amends and changing your behavior. Lastly, give them time and space to process, and remember that actions speak louder than words in rebuilding trust.

Ezra Part15: Beautiful Repentance (Ezra 9:4-10:4)

Ezra Part15: Beautiful Repentance (Ezra 9:4-10:4)

Ezra has come to teach God's people God's ways, to help them align their lives to the heart and word of God. When he discovers that they are straying so badly into sin, he is understandably devastated. He becomes an example to them though, of how to repent, and they way he identifies with them in their sin points us all to Jesus, the one who ultimately has taken our sin upon Himself. These keys help us address sin in our own lives as well, reminding us that there is hope after sin! Take a knee. Take responsibility. Then take action. God gives us all the grace we need to turn our minds, hearts, and actions back toward Him in beautiful repentance.

    Healed on day one

    Healed on day one

Ryan Peebles was ashamed, embarrassed, and angry. He had done everything to take care of his back, and yet he was broken. His back problems cast a shadow over his life for a decade. That time was painful, but it was also a journey of growth, where he developed an ever-evolving, deepening understanding of the body, which he will shares in this podcast.

It all started when lower back pain side-lined Ryan from playing basketball as a junior in high school. He couldn’t lift weights anymore. And he couldn’t pursue his passion of surfing because he felt nerve damage every time he went. He had one chiropractor tell him, after looking at his x-ray, that he would be in a wheelchair by the time he was 30. That severely affected his psyche, so his mind, emotions and back was really messed up after that, and I felt hopeless.

One day in 2010, he was curled up on my bedroom floor dwelling on his pain. It was his usual spot, but this time was different. Not only did he have his normal lower back pain, but both my knees hurt too. He also had neck pain, and could feel that his jaw was jutting forward, and his bite was even messed up! In that moment he knew… he would either have to accept his wheelchair-bound fate, or take responsibility in his own hands and become his own healer. So when he was 24 years old, he committed his life to healing his back.

In the following years he became obsessed with research, consuming countless books and articles online. Eventually, he identified muscle imbalances as the cause of his back problem. This whole body concept resonated with him. It connected the dots and gave him an explanation for many of his body problems. It was a way to look at chronic injuries from a full body perspective. By continually adapting his personal routine as he learned, he found a process that gets to the "core" of the problem. Piece-by-piece, and day-by-day he created this unique program that teaches people how to retrain their body for healthy movement, and get out of pain for good.

My first audition after 5 years!

My first audition after 5 years!

Yes that’s right…. I’m coming out of retirement. I had my first audition the other day after making the call to come back to the industry.

After having my first bubba, I made a choice not to return to the biz. I honestly thought it would be forever. Having found my coaching business and the love of helping others I thought my performing days were over.

It turns out after watching a few musicals lately, the light has been turned on again.
Hear my insights into my audition day. How the nerves and negative inner dialogue came up but how I calmed them down using of course… my tools and techniques of The Musical Mentor Method!!

Full Disclosure Fridays - The truth behind the Jazz Hands with Kerry Ellis, leading lady of West End musicals

Kerry Ellis has fast become recognised as the leading lady of West End musicals from her starring roles in London and on Broadway. She has also achieved chart-topping success as a recording artist signed to Universal Decca with her debut album Anthems.

Kerry originated the role of Meat, in Queen’s We Will Rock You and was the first British Elphaba in the West End smash, Wicked, for which Kerry won the 2008 Whatsonstage.com Award for ‘Best Takeover in a Role’. She then immediately transferred to Broadway and played Elphaba at the Gershwin Theatre for 6 months, where she won the Broadway.com Audience Award for Favourite Female Breakthrough Performance, before returning to London for 6 months in 2009.
Her many other leading role credits include Nancy in Oliver! at Drury lane, Eliza Doolittle My Fair Lady, Ellen in Miss Saigon and Fantine in Les Miserables.

Kerry and I had the most wonderful chat about the highs and lows of the industry. How finding fitness and well-being has kept her passion alive as well as her mind and body strong when Motherhood was thrown into the mix.

    31 - What's Wrong and Who's to Blame

    31 - What's Wrong and Who's to Blame

In this episode Cindy Esliger talks about the blame game. We want to know why things go wrong and we like distancing ourselves from the problem, which often leads to blame. Cindy gets into how this causes issues and how to break the finger-pointing habit.

We lean into a tendency to talk in circles around a problem, passing the buck and assigning blame, when really we should know how to take responsibility for our actions when needed. Cindy details exactly how this erodes an organization or team. She gives good reasons for working to resolve an issue instead of simply targeting a scapegoat.

The blame game is played in many ways so Cindy shares four warning signs to watch out for. She then gives three steps on how to direct the discussion in a more productive direction. But even better than responding well to the blame game is avoiding it in the first place. Cindy lays out three ways to prevent the culture of blame from taking hold and challenges us each to ask five key questions about our own responsibility when something goes wrong.
