It’s the week before Christmas and just when you think the industry has gone in to slumber, chaos emerges. It’s a tough week for leaks and hacks with Rocksteady and Insomniac Games forced to confirm that stuff in the wild is true and to keep away from spoilers if you can.  

Don’t worry though, we keep things spoiler free and only discuss the ramifications these leaks and hacks will have on the future of these studios.

In other news, Naughty Dog have cancelled The Last of Us live service game and there’s so much to unpack from that announcement. 

In Playing and Watching, we change things up and discuss Fortnite and The Finals.

E3 is dead and The Game Awards killed it. Kidding, but The Game Awards did happen and there were announcements and trailers. 

Arkane is making a Blade game, there’s a new Jurassic Park game, and Kojima is doing something too.

In this episode, I talk about the prospects of the Micrsoft/Activision deal going through after the EU regulators approval. I also address earnings from some other gaming companies including Roblox and Take Two Interactive. Lastly, I briefly touch on C3.AI and their positively updated numbers for this quarter. 

Josh and Jeff get passionate while warning people about predatory behavior in the games they love.  Josh lays out the horror of legalized gambling for children (loot boxes). Jeff goes through the slippery slope of microtransactions as an alleged service to players to a stumbling block for game developers and corporations. The boys also go through game releases for June and talk about big showcases for the summer.
