The Story of Rock and Roll: S6E26

Episode 26 of season 6 went out live at 19h00 on 29 June 2023 on Rebel Rock Radio. The show kicked off with Buffalo Springfield and ‘For What Its Worth’, a track that Rush’s Alex Lifeson says he most wishes he had written. It made sense to then go straight into a song he did write, Rush with Freewill.  There is plenty to get excited about on this show, a good mix of old, new, heavy, and light.  Check the artists featured below to get the playlist, it's in order so you kind find things fairly easily.

The new releases included another track from Jelly Roll off his Whitsitt Chapel album which I predict is going to go straight to the top of the charts, another track off Extreme’s latest album Six. and then 'Hearing Voices' off the Foo Fighters latest release But Here We Are.

The Immortals featured W.A.S.P. and their magnificent 'Chainsaw Charlie (Murders In the New Morgue)' off The Crimson Idol, one of the finest concept albums ever released by a metal band.

This week's Ultimate Challenge looked at 2018.  The choices were Greta Van Fleet – Anthems of a Peaceful Army, Halestorm – Vicious, Black Label Society – Grimmest Hits, and Judas Priest – Firepower.  We threw in Shinedowns Attention Attention for a bit of fun.

Artists Featured:  Buffalo Springfield, Rush, Ted Nugent, Deep Purple, KISS, Kissing Dynamite, Dee Snider & George Lynch, Mr. Big Motörhead, Onslaught, Boom, Korn, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Foghat, The Lazys, Danko Jones, White Zombie, Doomsday outlaw, Jelly roll, Tom petty, Volbeat, U.D.O., Ayron Jones, W.A.S.P., Greta Van Fleet, Halestorm, Black Label Society, Judas Priest, Shinedown, Extreme, Foo Fighters, Butch Walker, Megadeth, Arch Enemy, Van Halen

Being heard: CF and diagnosis when your African American

Being heard: CF and diagnosis when your African American

It's 2023, surely now people of color are correctly being diagnosed with cystic fibrosis right?  Nope.  They are still underdiagnosed.  We hear about it happening in low income countries, but it's happening right here in the USA.

Rachel Alder was diagnosed barely 5 months ago, at age 26.  She was misdiagnosed until January 2023. Rachel was born before newborn screening could detect CF. And, because not all mutations are under represented in testing, her diagnosis would still most likely have been missed. We have to change this.

Rachel Alder today, or Rae as she likes to be called has been an advocate her entire life. Rachel, who is African American. It is still unbelievable to those of us advocating and raising awareness about the disparity in diagnosis in people of color, it is still happening.  As a reminder, anyone, regardless of race can be diagnosis with cystic fibrosis.  The number of people diagnosed with CF is certainly higher than is what currently reported.  Rae is a transracial adoptee, which means she was adopted by parents who are a different race.  Rae identifies as queer, and a full time CF Warrior.

In the beginning of her career, she worked on diversity victim advocacy with survivors of sexual assault, human trafficking, and domestic violence. After her January CF diagnosis, she started focusing on patient advocacy, and specifically on health equity. Rae herself overcame racial bias, health disparity and a decline in her own health until her diagnosis.

The Story of Rock and Roll: S6E18

The Story of Rock and Roll: S6E18

S6E18 of The Story of Rock and Radio Show kicked off on Star Wars Day i.e. May the Fourth, live on Rebel Rock radio at 7:00 PM show started off with the old favorites Judas Priest of the 1986 album Turbo.

There were some great pairings on this episode;  we checked out Sons of Apollo back to back with Bristol band Sons of Liberty, and we put Rush and Mastodon together and heard  'Subdivisions’ and ‘The Beast’ respectively.  We also went to Germany and played Accept (winner of last week's Ultimate Challenge) and Rammstein who has been neglected on TSORR of late.

We looked at 1986 for the Ultimate Challenge.  The UC is a look at four albums from a particular year.  This week it was Van Halen - 5150, Metallica - Master of Puppets, Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet, and Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time.  On the Immortals we featured a track by Steve Winwood off the amazing album Arc of the Diver.  The track was 'Night Train', and as I recall Steve played all the instruments himself.

We had a big scoop this week where we got to play another track off the brand new (Released 5 May) Deadline album Vitriol Inc, we heard 'Codebreaker' and the other big news was we played Philistine's debut track called 'Blue Train'.  Philistine is Dean Smith and Marq Vas, both stalwarts of SA Metal through bands like Metalmorphosis and Ragnarok.  Theo Crous produced this masterpiece.

Artists featured:  Judas Priest, Glenn Hughes, Ted Nugent, UFO, Status Quo, Q5, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Nazareth, Jimi Hendrix, Rush, Mastodon, Sons of Apollo, Sons of Liberty, Accept Rammstein, Shinedown, Soundgarden, ACDC, Airbourne, Oasis, Sex Pistols, Stiff Little Fingers, KISS, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Steve Winwood, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Philistine, Deadline, Overkill, Dave Hause

POLITICIANS REVEAL: MUSK IS DOING A "CNN" TO TWITTER 11.30.22

POLITICIANS REVEAL: MUSK IS DOING A "CNN" TO TWITTER 11.30.22

EPISODE 85: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN

A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: Kevin McCarthy says: "Stop Picking On Elon Musk!" FINALLY, because two of the worst Republican politicians shot off their big bazoos, we get a clue as to what Musk is doing to Twitter. He's running the same play on it that John Malone ran on CNN: (4:02) see the platform that permits criticism of fascists, buy the platform, claim you only want to make it again into "sensible and centrist" media, shift the Overton Window as far right as you can, and turn it into radical right propaganda.(7:46) After Musk's self-martyring battle with Apple, his next fight may come from Google. Axios reports Google is "monitoring developments" on the lack of content moderation at Twitter and could remove the App from its Google Play Store (11:25) What specific political rewards Musk should be expecting is still unclear but to hear Kevin McCarthy and Ron DeSantis whine about it, you'd think Musk had been kidnapped by pirates. DeSantis went so far as to suggest that if Apple removes Twitter from its App Store, Congress should "respond."

B-Block (17:35) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Meatball, in Staten Island (18:33) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Senate passes Same-Sex Marriage, House to take up Paid Leave for Railroad Workers, Stewart Rhodes convicted, Trump still avoids condemning Nick Fuentes (20:49) IN SPORTS: World Cup Win, Golf War could end if they fire Greg Norman, Joey Votto beaten by 9-year old (22:55) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: So, yeah, I ate a box of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups without taking off the brown wrappers - of course this was in 1966. I compete with Herschel "Texas Ranger" Walker and Marjorie "Masks Can't Stop Farts" Greene for the honors.

C-Block (29:30) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: It's roughly the anniversary of the day I got a call about how they were going to fire Jimmy Kimmel and could I replace him? It's not exactly what it sounds like - I'll explain.

Here's The Deal Podcast - The Max Baker Jr. Story - Episode 11

In episode 11 we pick up in 1994 at the newly named "Stage One" formerly known as Alcatraz. There were numerous Zoo Amp OKC shows during the summer of '94, one being Chris LeDoux, whom left a lifelong impact on Max Baker Jr. Max also gets confused on who sings the country song "Dumas Walker". We also discuss a few one hit wonder, alternative bands who toured through OKC as well as some with major label record deals who never found a hit. Max goes into detail about a couple of Bricktown OKC venues/clubs & discusses how dangerous bricktown was before it became a tourist destination.

    Steve Blaze (Lillian Axe guitarist)

Steve Blaze is the guitarist, songwriter & founding member of the band Lillian Axe. The band burst on the scene in 1988 when their debut album was produced by Robbin Crosby of Ratt. Since then they have shared a stage with Poison, Alice Cooper and Motörhead and played huge shows like the Monsters of Rock Cruise & the M3 Rock Festival. They have a new album out soon called From Womb to Tomb that Steve is here to discuss. We also talk Jani Lane almost joining the band, how Steve helped Phil Anselmo join Pantera, missed opportunities with Sebastian Bach & Lita Ford and more!
