There is very few true mysteries as the Incarnation of Christ. As we examine the gospel according to John we come to some very powerful declarations made by John who has had a lifetime to reflect on exactly who Jesus was. By understanding what John is trying to communicate we find ourselves realizing that in our own merits we could never approach a holy God without fear. The good news of the gospel is we do not enter in our own holiness but by the Lord's holiness.

We had our first experience with a Cowboy church! It was great and as we church hunt in our new town, I'll let you know how it goes, but that Cowboy church welcomed us in with great warmth and chocolate chip cookies. So far so good. But getting to the Word, If Christ is light and life, and if Christ lives in us, what does this mean for us? Looking again at John 1:1-5 and the Greek word logos, we talk about Christ being the light which is the life of men. Darkness can't over come light, we're told. What the heck does that mean? According the Scripture it means, when we see ourselves as the light of Christ and not just as walking with the light, our purposes becomes clear. We're to be the conduit, the light method of Christ that draws people out of the dark and to His light. As the moon reflects the sun, we can shine for Christ.

There is freedom and salvation in admission of sin. The Holy Spirit mercifully and constantly exposes sin both in the lives of sinners and confessing believers because of the Savior’s love. May we preach and pray that people would see their sin and not be turned into walking contradictions.

In this weeks message Pastor Travis talks to us about how Jesus is our lighthouse.

A lighthouse  is usually a tower built offshore or on a seabed to serve as an aid for coastal navigation warning mariners of hazards, it helps them establish their position guiding them to their destination.

Jesus is our Lighthouse

1 John 5-7
This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, We have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all Sin.

In this episode Arnie and Fred discuss John the Immerser, better known as John the Baptist in some Bible translations. We begin by noting when the Bible says his work began. We talk about his mission which included his preaching that was to prepare men to believe in Him who was "the Light". John preached about repentance and the fact that God's kingdom was soon to come. John spoke to both the religious elite and the politically powerful. We discuss what his specific demands of the people were and what he said about the coming Messiah. Finally, we note the fulfillment of his mission and the fact that he was not "The prophet" that the people were looking for. Wewill finish our discussion of John the Baptist in the next episode. Spend about 30 minutes with us on this episode and have your Bible handy to follow along. 

Matthew 5:1-12

Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them.

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted

5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart,for they will see God.

9. Blessed are the peacemakers,for they will be called children of God.

10. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.

12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Dynamics of Beatitudes

Spiritual Poverty --> Mourning over sins --> Attitude of Meekness --> Hunger for Righteousness --> Mercy, Purity, Peace-making

Christian life is the pathway of sanctification, becoming more like Christ.

The contributions which legends like John Coltrane, Pablo Picasso, Stanley Kubrick and so many more made to modern art in their lifetimes were monumental.  Their work irrevocably shaped and set the landscape of creativity in its own image – their influence runs so deep it's impossible to ignore.  For some creatives, however, reverence may quickly turn into fear – some may feel a constant pressure to emulate "the greats" as closely as they can, disregarding their own ideas in the process.  XV speaks on the complex relationship he has with the legacies left by the creative giants of yesteryear in a short written piece: "The Light".
