Day 354: The Prayer of the Church

Day 354: The Prayer of the Church
Through the Catechism, we learn more about the Lord’s Prayer and how it should be included in our personal prayers as well as in community during the liturgy of the Mass. In giving us the Our Father, Jesus models how we are to use this prayer to speak directly with the Father. Fr. Mike drives home that we receive the words to pray and also receive the Holy Spirit when saying this prayer. Together, the words and the Holy Spirit enable us to pray like Christ and become more like him. Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 2765-2772. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. 024: Breaking Down The Lord's Prayer: "In Earth As It Is In Heaven"

024: Breaking Down The Lord's Prayer: "In Earth As It Is In Heaven"

This is Part 5 of our series on breaking down the Lord's Prayer.

The phrase, "in earth as it is in heaven," came directly after "thy kingdom come, thy will be done," so although we're focusing on "in earth as it is in heaven, as with the rest of the prayer, we recognise that it's not a standalone phrase and so we discuss it in context.

    • Why we use the KJV, "IN earth as in heaven."
    • Where the Will of God begins
    • What are some examples of heaven on earth being exercises
    • How do we imitate Jesus in bringing heaven to earth
    • What it means to be an ambassador in the world and how that mirrors our ambassador for Christ.

This entire series has been about God's Will being done on the earth and as we're nearing the close of 2022, many of us are thinking about what we'd like to accomplish in 2023.

If this is you, Susan has just the challenge that will set you up for greater vision in 2023. In accordance with Habakkuk 2:2, you'll be "writing your vision and making it plain.

021: Hallowed Be Thy Name: Breaking Down The Lord's Prayer

021: Hallowed Be Thy Name: Breaking Down The Lord's Prayer

In today's episode we're focusing on the second part of the Lord's Prayer, "hallowed be thy name."

To pray 'hallowed be Your name' means to ask God to let His name be worshipped, exalted, honored, and adored on earth as it is in heaven. It is to ask God to so move and act in the world, that people will worship and treasure Him above all else.

    • What does the word "hallowed" mean?
    • What Jesus meant when He said, "out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have perfected praise."
    • How to get into a posture of worship

020: Breaking Down The Lord's Prayer: Our Father Who Art In Heaven

020: Breaking Down The Lord's Prayer: Our Father Who Art In Heaven

This is the first of a 7 part series on the Lord's Prayer.

I wholeheartedly believe this is a kingdom prayer - and one we've all too often considered to be a nice prayer for children or to end a church service.

In this episode we talk about Our Father in Heaven.

    • Why Jesus starts off this prayer with "Our Father in heaven"
    • How and why God the Father  woos us into His presence
    • The one thing that enabled Jesus to always please His Father
    • What is the purpose of prayer
    • How to embrace prayer so it doesn't feel like an obligatory act

    Lord, Teach Us To Pray!

    Lord, Teach Us To Pray!

In Luke 11:1 Jesus is praying. Watching from a distance are his disciples. With the prayer done one of them asks him "Lord, teach us to pray." I am trying to imagine what kind of prayer he said. Each word seemed to open the heavens. The prayer moved them into the very presence of the unseen God. The desire to learn to give such a prayer prompted the request. Teach us to pray!

    "Our Father" "Who Is!"

    "Our Father" "Who Is!"
He Is! God is absolute! He has no beginning and no end. He was not created. He answers to no one and He created this world out of nothing. When we pray, "Our Father who art in heaven..." we are addressing Him in His infinite glory, power, majesty, beauty and splendor. Beholding Him in all....HE IS!
