She observed successful people and encouraged her sons to emulate their behaviors, including reading. This led to behavior changes which had a profound effect on their education. In 1973, Ben Carson graduated from Yale University. He went on to receive his M.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School. At the age of 33, Dr. Carson became the chief of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, making him the youngest major division director in the hospital’s history. This would be among an extensive list of outstanding firsts for Dr. Carson. Dr. Carson’s accomplishments have earned him a place in medical history. He performed the first and only successful separation of craniopagus (Siamese) twins joined at the back of the head in 1987. He also performed the first fully successful separation of type-2 vertical craniopagus twins in 1997 in South Africa. In his career, Dr. Carson became a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and directed pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for over 29 years. He became the inaugural recipient of a professorship dedicated in his name in May 2008. He is now the Emeritus Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D. and Dr. Evelyn Spiro, R.N. Professor of Pediatric Neurosurgery, having retired on June 30, 2013. In 2016, Dr. Carson accepted the position of Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under the Trump administration. Cullen is 27 years old and has served in the U.S. Army for the last 8 years and is currently a drill sergeant stationed at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. Three years ago he started investing in real estate and now owns and manages 9 units. He has positioned himself to be able to retire once he finishes his current military contract.

Cullen did not start with a huge bank account or have anyone gift him any money to get started. He first utilized his VA loan eligibility to purchase his first duplex that started it all. Listen to him tell his story about having to get creative and not accept "NO" for an answer. Cullen desperately wants to share this message with his brothers and sisters in the military community. He demonstrates exactly how to create wealth through persistence and action. No doubt my friend Cullen is on the way up to some BIG, BIG things!

In this episode of "The Way Up Podcast with Geoff Knoll" I have the pleasure of interviewing Roger Best. He shares his experiences about entering the entrepreneurship world at the age of 8 years old selling worms, to starting an I.T. business, and becoming a real estate investor. Roger and his wife of almost 44 years are living their dream life in Puerto Rico. Roger talks about the fact that living his dream life does not mean retiring. He has no intentions of letting off the gas and getting old.

Roger shares shares some action steps that helped lead him to success and will help you get there too!

1) Create a foundation with the right mindset.
2) Prioritize your day, start from the top and work your way down.
3) Get out of your own way, your biggest obstacle and limitation is yourself.
4) Build relationships with people. Connecting with the right people will catapult you toward success.

You're Thinking Too Small

5 Key Points:

As we have mentioned before the people that you surround yourself with in your life play a crucial role in the way you think especially when it comes to your vision for your life. We encourage you to surround yourself with people that will challenge your vision in the sense that they force you to think bigger for yourself and for your future.
Thinking bigger starts breaks down into three major steps. The first being the vision stage of initially thinking bigger for yourself, the second is getting plans with actionable steps to take action on, and the third is implementation which is the actual action you take consistently on our vision.
When you limit yourself to small ideas you aren't giving yourself the opportunity to experience all your potential in this life. So many of us downplay how much we could actually accomplish with our lives and there's no reason not to think bigger for yourself because so many folks just cruise through this life without fully experiencing their potential.
You need to have faith in yourself and trust in your abilities to make things happen. Be the person that knows they are the right person for the job. You don't have to be the expert in everything you just need to master at least one thing and know that when the job needs to get done that you are the perfect person to get it done. Confidence and trusting in yourself is the key.
Use reflection to constantly review where you are at in your life and where you're headed. Ask yourself "could I think bigger?" and ask yourself "would my eight year old self be proud and would my eighty year old self be proud of what I'm doing and who I'm becoming?"
